So with the impending reality that mlb will likely be in a lock out next season would players like curiel milam brown decide to stay for an extra season? I understand milam and brown this is their junior money year but what’s the point if they don’t have a 2027 mlb season

the draft will be well before the lockout and Milam and Brown would lose all leverage if they came back
I do know Milam loves LSU but he probably needs to get the best offer he can

because they'd lose their leverage the following draft and can still get paid their signing bonus this year. I don't think potentially losing their minor league salary of $35k for part of the 2027 season is going to factor into their decision.

I would look more into how it affects the HS kids in Jay recruiting class, he’s got a lot of top end talent that are draft risks. The more knowledgeable guys that follow the draft on the recruiting board could explain it better. But it’s something to keep an eye on.

yes, you may very well get a high school kid you were not expecting and he can earn NIL

The only way the stay is if the tea leaves say the new CBA will be better for rookies.

Why would they stay if the CBA is made better for rookies?

Also, I'm not sure Milam is going to be a high draft pick. I'm not sure how much power he projects at the next level for his size.

Wasn't there talk of no longer being able to draft HS kids with this CBA?

Yes but highly unlikely that it goes through

There was talk of it because someone leaked it to a podcaster as a trial balloon to gauge public reaction.

The union will fight against that because it's a long term salary suppression tool.

So if I understand this correctly, when mlb is having a strike, the minors still play. Is this correct? I was a child but last time this happened I thought I remember the minors still playing their season.

I am by no means stating this as fact but a question.

MLB lockout won't affect the minor leagues which is where the draftees are headed to.

Negative 8000%. None of those guys are making to the bigs this year anyway, so it doesn't affect their 2027 plans.

In 1994, the MLBPA didn't include minor league players, so minor league baseball wasn't affected by the 1994 strike. As of the most recent CBA in 2023, the MLBPA represents both now, so I'm not sure if they would be affected or not by a potential lockout next year

Konnor Griffin just hit one over the spring training green monster against the Red Sox. But guys like him should definitely be forced to go to school so he could be in his sophomore year at LSU instead of preparing to make the opening day roster in the majors.

Agree. Of the things owners will likely want in the next CBA, I doubt this one ranks very high. As Project said, it was a trial balloon. The owners are leaking everything they want. They will get some, but not close to all. I think this is one they quietly move on from early in the process.

i’m interested in how teams will approach high schoolers
paying an 18 year old a few million and then shelving them for a year that early in their development doesn’t seem great
