WWL Piece: Louisiana U.S. Senate race could get ugly as GOP candidates fight for votes

We're three months away from the United States Senate primary election in Louisiana, and the three major Republican candidates are jockeying for positioning with the state's conservative voters. One analyst says: Take the poll data you see with a grain of salt.
"I think it's kind of difficult to say who's leading at this point," LAPolitics.com publisher Jeremy Alford said, noting that each of the candidates has commissioned his or her own polls in the race, making it difficult to tell who exactly is running first.
However, Alford told WWL's Tommy Tucker that the polls show that Congresswoman Julia Letlow is running strong.
"The race does look like a slugfest between Julia Letlow and Bill Cassidy right now," Alford said. "She is formidable, and I think she has everyone in the field worried."
Alford adds that the incumbent, Bill Cassidy, faces an uphill battle.
"Even his own polling show some weaknesses for him," Alford said.
Alford believes the third major GOP candidate, state treasurer John Fleming, could see a boost in polling as the race progresses, possibly allowing him to be the spoiler in the race.
"I think he's kind of hoping that Julia Letlow and Bill Cassidy keep attacking each other and knocking voters off of each other and that they fall to him. That he becomes sort of the conservative alternative to the both of them," Alford said.
According to Alford, the race shows just how fractured the Republican Party is ahead of the election.
"You really do have a party that's divided when it comes to Cassidy and Letlow," Alford said. "You have President Trump and his operation behind Julia Letlow, and you have the National Republican Senatorial Committee as well as the Senate Majority Leader in Bill Cassidy's corner. I think it's going to come to down which of those forces show up for their chosen candidate."

Thought the last poll out had Fleming ahead.

I think it did. It was conducted by JMC Analytics, which is a legit reputable polling outfit; however, it was commissioned by Fleming's campaign. So...take all that for what it's worth.

A new Senate poll shows a very competitive Senate primary and could spell big trouble for the incumbent. The poll commissioned by the John Fleming campaign and conducted by JMC Analytics and Polling shows Fleming leading Julia Letlow and Bill Cassidy in a three-way race. Among 645 likely Republican voters, it shows Fleming with 26-% support, Letlow with 25% and Cassidy with 22%. Pollster John Couvillon says in head-to-head matchups, Fleming leads both.
“Against Senator Cassidy, Fleming has widened his lead to a 20-point lead. Against Julia Letlow, Fleming has a 9-point lead, which is beyond the poll’s margin of error,” Couvillon said.
Couvillon says Fleming’s key to success has been being able to consolidate Blake Miguez’s support after he exited the race in favor of a run in the fifth congressional district.
“The Acadiana Region has become quite conservative. Dr. Fleming is in a perfect position to pick up that support, and has,” Couvillon noted.
Couvillon says Cassidy has failed to move the needle in recent polls, and that’s going to spell big trouble for him as the campaign moves forward.
“He’s a two-term incumbent who has a massive financial advantage. And if he’s been in the low 20s for the last year, it’s very difficult, in my opinion, to go from 22% to 50.1% in the June runoff,” Couvillon explained.

Majority of voters would go Fleming if he had the financial backing to get out there and if they looked at Cassidy and Letlow’s voting record.
It’s a no brainer

Really? I can promise now that I will NOT vote for Cassidy regardless of who shows up/doesn't show up.

Don’t believe the “tightness of this race.”Cassidy has no shot of winning. No shot in hell.

Where does the data from Letlow's voting record come from? What is the real story?

People have asked for specifics on here, but I'm not sure I've seen any.

Never mind.
The Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) does not publicly rate U.S. Representative Julia Letlow in its official scorecards or indices. However, external evaluations provide insight into her conservative alignment.
The Institute for Legislative Analysis rates Julia Letlow at 43 on a 100-point scale, where 100 represents a limited government, conservative stance. This score places her as a moderate Republican.
The Heritage Action Scorecard for the 118th Congress gave her a score of 62, indicating she has voted in ways that are not consistently aligned with conservative priorities, such as supporting omnibus spending packages and foreign aid.
Conservative voices within the Republican Party, including those aligned with the RLC, have criticized her as a “watered-down Republican” and a RINO (Republican In Name Only), citing her moderate voting record and lack of strong conservative legislative wins.
While the RLC does not issue a formal rating for Letlow, her performance in conservative evaluations suggests she is viewed as significantly less conservative than many members the RLC typically endorses

She’s President Trump and Governor Landry’s candidate, though. It is what it is, I guess.

I lived in Texas for several years before moving back to Louisiana a couple of years ago. I definitely know that I will not support the Swamp Rat known as Bill Cassidy.
Based on just a few things, right now I would vote for Fleming over Letlow. I just have a couple of questions about Letlow. I was hoping that President Trump would endorse Fleming, but I've heard a few times that Governor Landry pushed Letlow to Trump.

It doesn’t matter. shite pieces like this are about nothing but trying to stoke division in hopes to sneak Cassidy back in.
But I’m guessing you realize that.

Letlow wouldn't even be in this race if not for Trump's endorsement. I don't think she has any real support other than the maga crowd just doing what Orange Jesus tells them to do.

Louisiana, please vote this evil out…
