I have a family member who will be a senior in HS. He started as RB and corner for a small school in alabama, but an injury in the first game of his Junior year kept him out for the season.

He recently clocked 22.5 mph running track, he will probably be considered undersized though.

What's the best way for him to go about showcasing ability with a short time frame, since he lost out on his junior season

As many on-campus camps as possible between now and the start of his senior season to get in front of coaches.

He's under 6ft and around 165. Would it be a waste of time to go to the bigger school camps? I figured his speed may be enough to catch someone's attention.

And don't be insulted by any offers. No level is too low. Coaches move up too. And getting on the field and putting game tape together could lead to bigger opportunities later.

Agreed.

Thank you for the input.

Out of curiosity. Are these camps invite only?

Post videos on Twitter of his athletic exploits. Find a coach list from regional schools and tag them. Coaches will recruit to verified athletic measures

Camps, camps, camps. You should attend one every weekend during the summer if possible. Every group of five team hosts a camp, and many programs also offer satellite camps.

Recruiting is all about marketing yourself. College coaches are far more likely to engage with athletes who consistently show up, put in the work, and demonstrate genuine interest in their program than with athletes who only send game film.

Lastly, at a camp, you're more likely to find a straight shooter (recruiter, coach at Uni) who tells you the reality of your family member making it at that level.

Does he have Hudl highlights? It's not hard to get an email list of schools by division and blast out an intro and Hudl link.

While great advice and the best way honestly, not all families, most id venture to say, can afford the entry fees to these. They arent free for fringe players. Hundreds of dollars weekly(at least) is a big deal to most families in America when they also have to feed, cloth and house their children. Many parents find a way but also make themselves very vulnerable doing so.

Your post is top of the line all the way through so absolutely no criticism intended. The last paragraph in particular is one of great importance.

No coach is going to ignore verified 22.5 mph top end speed on a 6 ft frame. They can add 12 lbs to a kid in 1 yr and not lose speed.

Alot of great advice above... good luck and hope he gets alot of offers! Keep us updated down the road

Sorry I shouldve been more clear he’ll probably never be 6 ft. 5’9 or 5’10

Anyways. I think we’ll try the duke camp in June.

The vanderbilt camp seems well done and they invite a ton of smaller schools to join in. From G5 and FCS

He could parlay his athletic skills into an admission or scholarship to a good university.

Came here to say this. A lot of schools do this or used to at least. And it trickles down. Power 5 might have a few small G5 schools and then at G5 school camps, they'll have D2 and Juco.

Another poster said to not be insulted by offers and he's right. I had mississippi college approach me at a UL camp my Junior year and I blew them off when that could've been my first offer. Even if it's a D2/D3 school, it was a start

Also don't let him feel defeated after these camps if he doesn't get much attention or leave with some kind of offer. I watched a SELA Oline coach pass on a kid that started on a P5 2 years later. Not all of them are great talent evaluators. You don't always need a list of offers, just the one he wants to be at

Guess you never heard of trindon Holliday. He was only 5'5 but was fast as hell.

Shocked no one here told you the first thing to do. Really surprising on the recruiting board.

Recruiting questionnaires. Fill them out to any and all colleges so they can actually contact him. Doesn't matter small or big, fill them out. Also, camps are a great way to get noticed. I agree with that, but you have to have a strategy with those as well. Email the position coach prior to attending camp, even if he doesn't respond hopefully he will see and look for you. In the email include Hudl highlights if possible. Best plays first, keep it short, and no explicit music. I would target small school camps first because once you get an offer, the rest feel obligated if you have the measurables/stats.

Summer camp circuit if he is rehab'd enough. Also set up a HUDL account if he goes off this fall.

You have one thing in your favor. If he is not top level D1 talent or size then the smaller schools are in a 9 line bind for players with the transfer portal essentially stripping them of players ever season.

This plus create a student athlete resume highlighting his athletic achievements, academics to include gpa and test scores, volunteer work, coach/trainer contact info, and hyperlinks to his socials and film. Attach this in an introductory Email to coaches. Cast a wide net. Also go onto each school's athletics website and fill out their recruiting questionnaire if they have one. Follow the HC, Coordinator and position coach on their X & Insta accounts and DM them as well expressing interest. When you aren't a 3-5 star rated athlete you've got to be proactive.

And another thing...CLEAN UP HIS SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS. They check that stuff for knucklehead activity.

Our eldest grandson is being recruited by a number of schools - football - he will be a senior and has been a learning experience for me

Back in the day, none of us were approached until the Head Coach and our parents were spoken to first. Nowadays, straight to the kid....straight.
