A federal judge on Monday agreed to permanently block the release of Volume 2 of former special counsel Jack Smith's report, centered on President Donald Trump's handling of classified materials after his first term in office — in a significant victory for the president and his co-defendants.
quote:
The ruling, issued Monday by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, blocks the Justice Department from "releasing, distributing, conveying, or sharing with anyone outside the Department of Justice any information or conclusions in Volume II or in drafts thereof."
Cannon previously ruled that Smith was unconstitutionally appointed as special counsel, though the matter was ultimately dismissed following Trump's reelection in 2024.

I assume the basis is her previous ruling...
quote:
"Special Counsel Smith, acting without lawful authority, obtained an indictment in this action and initiated proceedings that resulted in a final order of dismissal of all charges,"

Jack Smith should be in jail.

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, granted the president's request to permanently block the release of the second volume of the report, ruling that its publication would represent a "manifest injustice" both to Trump and the co-defendants in the classified documents case.
"Special Counsel Smith, acting without lawful authority, obtained an indictment in this action and initiated proceedings that resulted in a final order of dismissal of all charges," Cannon said Monday.
It would be interesting if this allows the issue of the legality of the appointment to be retaken up at the appellate level, because the admin quickly dismissed charges against the co-Defendants prior to the appeals court ruling. Cannon making the dismissal a central part of her justification for this ruling should create another avenue to have appellate review on the issue.

Alexa, what sort of developments would indicate an ongoing investigation into "sPeCiAl cOuNsEl" Jack Smith and the Biden Department of Justice for their actions leading to the Mar-A-Lago raid in 2022?

If Jack Smith ever goes to jail, a certain poster from Lake Charles will scream like a banshee on steroids.

So this ruling would basically be that the reports are the fruit of a poisonous tree?

The ruling would lead someone to believe that the current federal GJs that are active in Florida are dealing with this material as evidence.

No. Nothing like that.

No. Nothing like that, either.
*ETA: that would presume that the judiciary is working with the current DOJ in secret and making false rulings in public, to hide this ex parte communication/strategy, which would be a bigger scandal than anything you can create around Jack Smith.
