Motives unknown, at this time.

quote:

A renowned scientist who contributed to the discovery of water on a distant planet was mysteriously shot and killed on the front porch of his desert California home.

Carl Grillmair, 67, was identified as the victim of a fatal shooting in Llano, a rural area of northern Los Angeles, on Monday morning.

Colleagues called Grillmair's research 'ingenious' and said that discovering water 'is a telltale sign the conditions of the planet are auspicious for life.'

The astrophysicist was found with a gunshot wound on his front porch after detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon just after 6am.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

While investigating the shooting call, the Palmdale Sheriff's Station responded to a carjacking in the same area and arrested a man named Freddy Snyder, 29, who was named as a person of interest in Grillmair's homicide case.

Scientist shot

But the last line seems curious...

The LACSD hasn't released Snyder's booking photo or any further information on the case.

Hmmm.

I don’t think discovering water on other planets and celestial bodies is a motive. Water has been detected on many other celestial bodies including planets and moons in our solar system.

I think the point was more of an identifier, not a topic of motive.

Water not discovered just here in our own solar system, but on an exoplanet isn't staggering news, but it's important stuff.

Weird part is they're not releasing the suspect's photo, who's reportedly 29.

What's up with that?

I think I read Snyder also tried stealing his aunt's car earlier in the day... I wonder if there's a way to find old booking photos- you know he's got to have a record.

I'd think his murder is less about the science and more about the California aspect.

Here's something new about him..

quote:

"The man charged with fatally shooting a renowned Caltech scientist on the front porch of his remote Antelope Valley home had been arrested less than three months earlier on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in a personal vehicle — then released on his own recognizance after the charge was dismissed for unknown reasons, according to court and jail records.

Freddy Snyder, 29, was arrested Dec. 20, 2025, in Palmdale on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in a personal vehicle, jail records show. He was charged, but the charge was later dismissed for unknown reasons, according to court records. Snyder was released on his own recognizance on Dec. 23, jail records show."

It sucks when brilliant people who contribute to the body of human knowledge get snuffed out by the dregs of society, due in large part to lax, liberal law enforcement.

What pisses me off the most is the gun control brigade... honestly, a lot of the tragedies they point to could be effectively decreased if only they applied the existing laws to these criminal fvcks.
