(Bloomberg) -- Japan plans to invest up to $36 billion in US oil, gas and critical mineral projects, the first tranche of its $550 billion commitment under the trade agreement it struck with President Donald Trump.

quote:

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said the projects were designed to build resilient supply chains through cooperation in areas crucial for economic security, including critical minerals, energy and artificial intelligence.

“We believe this initiative is fully aligned with its core objectives: promoting mutual benefits between Japan and the United States, ensuring economic security, and fostering economic growth,” she wrote.

The most significant investment is a natural gas facility in Ohio that’s expected to generate 9.2 gigawatts of power, according to a statement from US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, a massive project which Trump described as “the largest in History.”

This is the good Trump. I love when he is making deals.

He needs to turn his current foreign policy energy and money and focus it on infrastructure projects so he can have a long lasting legacy. Trump is good at building stuff. I wish he would focus on more of that.

My firm was touting how important a “liberal victory” in the Japanese elections was for the global economy. They’ll probably redact that statement once this is fully digested

As an aside did you guys know that Japan has been doing this:

quote:

A Japanese drilling ship has returned home after successfully test-mining mud thought to contain rare earths from the seabed thousands of meters deep. The vessel named Chikyu returned to Shimizu port in central Japan on Saturday. Researchers had spent about a month exploring the seabed roughly 150 kilometers southeast of the Japanese island of Minamitorishima. The area of the Pacific Ocean lies within the country's exclusive economic zone. Previous surveys had found that the seabed there contains high concentrations of rare-earth minerals, which are vital to high-tech industries. The researchers reportedly managed to collect mud from a depth of around 5,700 meters earlier this month as part of a Cabinet Office project. The project team now aims to separate rare earths from the samples and refine the minerals. It plans to launch an experiment to continuously mine 350 tons of mud per day from the same area, starting in February 2027.

NHK

Japan is probably our best and most reliable ally. Not a mooching country like some others we can name. Thank God they’re in our corner. Oh and the new Prime Minister, Takaichi, has a 65% approval with only 20% disapproval. She isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Are you retarded? He's done more of that THIS YEAR, than any other president in history basically .

It hurts my brain to even imagine how someone could type that, unless they live on another planet.

Good find Figgy, I had no idea it was that large....

quote:

The rare mineral deposit discovered offshore of Japan, particularly around Minamitorishima Island (about 1,850 kilometers southeast of Tokyo), is vast, with estimates suggesting it could hold over 16 million tonnes of rare earth oxides. Researchers have described the supply as "semi-infinite," with the potential to meet global demand for hundreds of years.

Just in time Trump is making a trade deal with them, its as if this was part of the strategy, like he is some sort of deal maker, imagine that.

Funny all this screaming about rare earth harkens back to the days when we were gonna run out of oil......until we start looking for the minerals and start finding them everywhere.

We spent 55 billion on foreign aid in 2024, but you're in a tizzy about the 3 billion in aid that Israel uses to buy weapons from Raytheon and Northrup Grumman. Why don't you look up how much money we've blown in the last few years to Afghanistan, Ukraine, Syria, and a number of African countries.

But it's always the jooos.

You dumbass. Show me where I have ever blamed the "jooos" for mooching. Let me clue you in... you won't find it because I haven't. I was referring to European nations using our largesse and muscle to develop social programs that they couldn't possible afford if we weren't busy doing the defending (and propping up their economies with our presence).

I'm loving Japan's new PM more and more every day.

I miss the days when we were ride-or-die with the Japanese, before the globalist cabal began driving their geopolitical wedges. If we could only get the Aussies to un-cuck themselves....

This is poli, it's always Israel's fault. But yes, I agree, propping up NATO has cost us a shite ton of money and just about everyone of the Western EU nations but France has been freeloading since 1989.
