Is the T-word as bad as the N-word ?

Im in an online chat server with a very diverse group of folks and yesterday we were discussing the Canadian school shooter who turned out to be a trans person.
During the course of discussion I used the T-word that rhymes with Nanny and suddenly started getting opposition from some of the liberals and a couple gay dudes. One of them reported my account and I was reprimanded by the platform moderators and given a 24-hr ban.
According to these people the T-word is as offensive as the N-word or the F-word(for gays). I always just thought the T-word was a silly abbreviated way of saying transexual person, and was unaware of the backlash it would cause.
What say ye OT Lounge?

I don't know about "as offensive." I could see the argument that it is most often used derisively and as such is not a harmless "abbreviation. But I'm not an expert on the terminology.

i know of a couple online comment sections to "news" sites where I've been banned for using the word trans in any variant because it was deemed to be "offensive"
