WSJ reporting that Lee Zeldin is repealing Obama’s 2009 green house has regulation

This seems like a massive deal that could meaningfully reduce energy costs and help improve trump’s polling on cost of living

The Trump administration is planning this week to repeal the Obama-era scientific finding that serves as the legal basis for federal greenhouse-gas regulation, according to U.S. officials, in the most far-reaching rollback of U.S. climate policy to date.
The reversal targets the 2009 “endangerment finding,” which concluded that six greenhouse gases pose a threat to public health and welfare. The finding provided the legal underpinning for the Environmental Protection Agency’s climate rules, which limited emissions from power plants and tightened fuel-economy standards for vehicles under the Clean Air Act.

This amounts to the largest act of deregulation in the history of the United States,” EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in an interview.
The final rule, set to be made public later this week, removes the regulatory requirements to measure, report, certify, and comply with federal greenhouse-gas emission standards for motor vehicles, and repeals associated compliance programs, credit provisions, and reporting obligations for industries, according to administration officials.

Officials said the rollback would equate to more than $1 trillion in regulation cuts, though they didn’t provide details on how they came up with the number. They said that rescinding the finding would result in an average per-vehicle cost savings of more than $2,400. Public health and environmental groups have said federal climate regulations help prevent hundreds of thousands of premature deaths each year.
The rollback of the endangerment finding is one of several energy- and climate-related announcements the administration is planning to make this week as part of a campaign to address high energy costs. Public polling shows that voters view the high cost of living—including electricity prices—as a primary concern heading into this year’s midterm elections.
“More energy drives human flourishing,” Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said in an interview. “Energy abundance is the thing that we have to focus on, not regulating certain forms of energy out.”

I sure hope so. My Duramax will love that. Hell of an engine but handicapped by the “rules”. Still gets 25 MPG in my Suburban. Free the Diesel.

I think they just changed the DEF rules and its no longer mandatory.

There has already been some court frickery with this.

The ruling centers on how the admin went about allowing the advisory panel/group to conduct its analysis/study. Apparently, the panel met in secret which was deemed illegal. We shall see how it pans out.

Nothing will change because companies know that Dems will just bring all this shite back when they return to power

That's what I'm thinking. The yo-yo effect with these regulations can get expensive.

From what I read, it doesn’t stop the requirement for DEF. It removes the requirement for manufacturers to program in Limp Modes when there are emission system failures.

I know nothing about designing environmental research but it would be great if whatever policy we go with moving forward comes from science instead of various BS power player backed "research"

While this is great, isn't it funny that this is happening as tech needs massive power for its data centers?
You have to wonder if this would even happen if it weren't for the AI demand

Bring back decent gas for our AC units.

The new stuff is so high-pressure that you will be lucky to have a coil last 10 years. It's also flammable.
We should go all the way back to R22 when units could make it 30 years

Bring diesel Cayennes back to market! And every other model!

I did A/C repair in college and cleaned up and replaced the the electrical components of two Made in Fort Smith, Arkansas Rheem units that were made in the early 90’s and we cleaned up after Katrina. This was for a family friend and I was recently in town for a funeral and was asked if I could look at them…those old R22 units are still running strong and holding freon. The new high pressure stuff is garbage. If you have a made in America Rheem or Rudd that runs off of R22 hold on to it. Don’t let some shifter talk you into swapping it out.

Unfortunately this does nothing about that.

It’s a separate law backed by the manufacturers. Will never change.

Or, was it put in place to begin with to make energy more expensive, control people's movements and herd them into cities where they could be controlled???? Hmmmmmm
