the lottery needs to go, way too many ways for the league to take control of the draft and who gets the picks

Imagine the tanking without the lottery

No defense. Shitty music throughout the game. Ugly courts. Flopping at an all time high. Shooting a hundred threes a game. It does suck.

I agree. No arguing
What do you think would be a better way?
NFL style worst get the 1st pick?
I dont know.
You would need a system that somehow gets the worst teams the best chance to improve with the draft at the same time not letting teams tank to get that pick.

I’m not sure how you fix the tanking problem in the NBA, unless a bunch of the owners have a come to Jesus moment and let Silver drop the absolute hammer on it. Smoothing out the lotto odds obviously hasn’t worked. There isn’t an easy answer

The ignorants who just auto-default to hating the NBA have no idea how much they've tried to do to stop tanking...and it still keeps on happening.
The problem is the NBA is too rational and has, effectively, solved the game/league, and people prefer the irrational old way for barber shop argument rhetoric.
This has happened in baseball too from what I've seen but their league and sport is a bit different so this manifests differently in terms of management.

At the start of every year disignate what final standing would get the #1 pick
Like, if you finish in 9th place you get the overall pick.
Then teams will have to play to finish 9th to get the #1 pick.
I know it is wac-a-doddle

It really isn’t that bad in baseball. After the Astros tanked and built a powerhouse teams tried to copycat it and they added a lottery in the last CBA. Team building in baseball is just very different because depth is so crucial, and there’s a whole other important avenue to acquiring amateur talent outside of the draft with J2/Latin America.
MLB has a rule that prohibits teams from being in the lottery year after year, which is something the NBA should consider in my opinion, but it still wouldn’t solve it
The obvious solution is they get more aggressive and strict about punishing teams for tanking. But the owners aren’t going to go with that, so it’s not gonna happen

You make it so your record only determines if you make playoffs or not.
You then take all non playoff teams and have a tournament. Seeding is determined by lottery balls. Then teams play to win the 1 pick and so on. So your season record doesn’t matter as long as you missed playoffs. Would avoid most tanking. You can win more games without hurting your draft seeding.

Anthony Davis was also ruled out for the season for the Wizards. The NBA is a joke league. Need to find a way to make the regular season matter.

The easiest way to fix tanking is to have a gigantic lottery for all teams.
