Just got done talking with cops and showing them video of dipshit rummaging around my back porch and trying to get in the back door.

Cop was already riding the neighborhood looking for him because he tried to enter another house the next street over, until the husband tapped on the window and he ran off.

Black guy in a black or dark blue "puffy" jacket with white stripes down the arms, similar to Adidas stripes, dark pants-could be jeans- and tan boots, like Timberlands.

Skinny, at least 6 foot, possibly an inch or two higher

Anybody staying around Wisteria, Oleander, Klienert... keep an eye out. He could have fled past Klienert towards tulip and Myrtle because his path to government is filled with cops atm. Area Between Drehr and Camelia.

Here's the video:

It’s 2026, and we’re still dealing with this. The never ending plague.

Broom or a .22 usually works well.

Never owned a gun in my life, never felt the need to.

But now I have a newborn who's hopefully coming home from NICU soon and her mother in the house.

I'm pretty sure he looked in the window because he heard my partner going to the kitchen and tried to open the door when he saw her, so now I'm in the market for a gun for her to have in the house.

Suggestions are welcomed. I kind of feel like a shotgun would be ok, just point and shoot. Something will get hit. Especially if it's a shorter barrel.

But guide me on guns for home defense and please include the pros and cons. (Specifically home defense, not for conceal carry or for the car. She already knows what she wants for that)

The best gun to have is the one you shoot well... for you, idk if its a shotgun, rifle, or pistol... you'll have to find out on your own because we don't know your size, build, or house layout... I suggest buying a few of each and practicing regularly

Personally, I keep a 9mm and .45 pistol in the night stand... with easy access to a shotgun loaded with #1 buckshot and no plug

It doesn't hurt that my girlfriend who lives with me was a competition shooter

Hopefully he tapped the glass with a handgun.

It's more for her, and she tends to panic more than focus in tense situations, so I'm not sure about a gun that is "aim and shoot" over a "point in the direction and shoot".

I like the idea of bird shot followed by a more lethal option in case the bird shot doesn't run them off or incapacitate their will to continue.

I've always believed that a warning shot is kind of bullshite unless it comes with the lesson that they aren't scared to shoot you.

Pelting someone with non lethal (as best as it can be) ammo pretty much leaves them with no room for doubt about your willingness to harm them

Never needed one. Had a lot of dogs protecting the house growing up, better deterrent and home defense than a gun.

Plus, we didn't hunt.

I grew up in the country too, and have been around guns, gone hunting, all that stuff.

I've never been against guns. Just never felt the need to own one.

I'm actually a pretty accurate shot.

Sorry man, I forgot my keys and didn't want to disturb you so late at night.

If I don't have my keys, I can't make it to school on Monday. And if I can't make it to school on Monday, how am I going to get my PhD?

If you pull the trigger it’s to kill. I want the most lethal ammo and birdshot is not it. Buckshot for home defense shotgun.

If someone is in you're home, you don't play games... no warning shot, no bullshite... they made their decision and you need to respond... no bird shot, no bullshite... aim center mass and eliminate the threat with extreme prejudice... This isn't a movie... protect your family!!

Let's remember that this is mostly for her to defend herself with. She doesn't know if she can point a lethal option at another person and be able to fire.

I understand that thinking and that hesitation one may have.

Bird shot would ease her anxiety about shooting another person, and knowing that maybe it won't end up with her having to deal with taking a life, justified or not.

I also told her that her way of thinking will probably change when the baby comes home and she's not protecting herself, but the baby. The life of a threat to the baby won't matter to her too much then.

This is retarded. If you were a real man with a set of nuts, this is where you tell them what to do.

You load the gun, you take them to practice with said gun. frick their feelings because chances are she will never have to use it.

I can tell her what to do. I can take her to get training and practice. I can drill into her head what needs to be done and what to think and worry about in any situation.

What I can't do is force her to act in a certain way if the situation ever does arrive, especially if I'm not there.

Maybe she follows her training and the agreed upon procedures for the situation, and maybe she panics, or freezes.

You don't know how people will respond to emergency situations.

We all love to believe that we would rise to the occasion and save the day, overcome the bad guys, but chances are you won't. You'll most likely freeze or run and hide.

The majority of the world tends to panic and succumb to anxiety.

You come across as someone who runs and hides.

ETA: And let's get one thing straight (this is something that's bothered me for a while): the first priority is not to kill, it's to end the threat. A shell filled with rock salt can accomplish that just as well as lethal ammunition can.

Unless the threat has a reason to attack you, personal or business, then bird shot will almost always end the threat and you don't need to worry about dealing with the aftermath of taking a life.

Some random person breaking into your house is not going to continue their attempt after hearing a gun blast and getting hit by shot. They are either going to fall down crying about how you shot them until the police arrive or they are going to run away, abandoning the crime they were attempting.

Either way, the threat is ended.

The whole "shot to kill" to end any threat mentality is actually a poorly thought out philosophy. Maybe you do have to kill to end the threat, but that should be your secondary plan.

The first strategy should always be to scare them away or incapacitate them first. It's less stress and anxiety if the first thing you focus on in that scenario is to scare or wound, meaning you don't have to worry about aiming, position, specific location, etc. Just fire in the general direction.

Your first priority isn't to kill, it's to end the threat. The best option for that is a dog. The second best is a gun.

Can't get a dog right now, so looking for a gun that a small woman would feel comfortable enough with to use and also good for someone who gets anxious in high stress situations.

Don’t be a fricking retard.

Better yet, you and her should just use salt rounds from here on out.
