Can a mother fricker just show up, do the job I asked for, STFU with all the chit-chat, and quit trying to upsell me fricking constantly?

fricking pests.

HVAC service techs, refrigerator repairmen, garage door techs…so few just show up and do the work quietly and silently.

Tradesmen are the second most revered figure on this board, trailing only Jesus. You may or may not have just committed O-T Lounge blasphemy.

I will destroy something trying to fix it myself before hiring someone.

I’m sure if you laid out these terms with them when they show up you’d get better results than bitching on a message board. I understand where you’re coming from, but don’t let another mother fricker rile you up in your own sanctuary. Be direct with them and stern when they try to bullshite you.

I bet you are watching them do the job and engaging in conversation and them trying to "upsell" is part of the conversation.

You: "Yeah, I would like to get ________"

Them: "Oh we can do that. You want us to give you a quote?"

I bet you complain how long they are taking, but don't pay attention to how you are slowing them up with bullshite conversation that they stop working to tell you some more bullshite.

When I do something I do not like to be distracted. I am not a great multitasker and I like to be focused on what I am doing. I don't like to bother other people while they do their job.

I do…it’s just sickening that it’s necessary every fricking time. I feel like I’m swatting off panhandlers.

Or can a mother fricker learn to fix his own shite himself?

Pro-tip: YouTube

However one thing I suggest no one do on a garage door: change the springs. One slip and your wrist/arm is broken. Heard many stories of this happening to a DIYer. Just pay the guy to do it and let him take the risk.

There used to be an old hippie who worked in my area who could fix almost anything. If he couldn't fix it the damn thing was broke. He liked to tinker with things and he would take forever to finish up. You could rest assured when he was done the job was done right. He retired a few years ago and I wish I could find another one like him.

So maybe be approachable instead up putting up your guard when they show up.

If you act like not an a-hole, you will probably get more accomplished rather than looking at the repair guy like you are above them

I have an AC guy that somewhat bothers me, but I continue to call him when needed

He does a great job and is honest. I ended up using him after an AC company lied about services and he came in and handled the issue without saying my only solution was an entire AC replacement.
Anyways… whenever i need him, i work from home. But he’ll come into my home office and just talk to me about shite I don’t care about. Seems like every time he comes, he’ll spend 15 minutes talking his head off like im a therapist. With that said, he’s the best I got .
He’s a nice guy though and wouldn’t change a thing. It’s just a weird pet peeve of mine though when people don’t shut up and don’t get the clue that I’m not interested in the convo. But I like having a cold house more.

You pretty much have to speak a little Spanish if you want something done quickly without expecting sales pitches and upsell attempts.

Even a "family owned company that's been in business for xx years" is often owned by PE now and in the business of sales.

Which is exactly what I asked the MF today to come do.

Nope. None of this.

I welcome them in, take them straight to the problem, and then leave them be. Within 10 min, it’s “Hey Mr PenguinNinja…” from them wanting me to come see something that’s a “big concern” that I’m “going to want to go ahead and get taken care of” that has frick-all to do with what I called them out for.
