TGBFTL started as a military cadet band and the uniforms are a nod to the military-style bands of the era.
Looks a hell of a ton sharper than the t-shirts and shorts of modern bands.

Because that's what a well-organized traditional marching band wears. I would not even want to have a band if they dressed in baseball hats and t-shirts (for example, the scumbag Florida Gators). Bands without proper uniforms are trashy.
