Why would the Nets waive Cam Thomas?

No trade market? He’s averaging 15 a night on 24 minutes shooting 40%.
What am I missing? Is this openly tanking?

they suck as an organization. nothing like the pels that are racking up multiple picks and cash and a player.

I don't watch the NBA, but in college at LSU he was an odd character. Basically only wanted to score the ball and didn't want to do anything else. He's a chucker. 39.9% overall shooting isn't great for that kind of player. Only a 32.5% 3 PT shooter this season too.

He’s not even shooting 40%, btw. It’s the lowest of his career by far and his shooting %’s are abysmal.
Are you ok?

I don't think I would call him an "odd character" as much as he's just a quiet guy. But he's definitely a one trick pony as he just wants to be a scorer...and nothing else. The volume numbers are there, but he's not efficient. At least not enough to get the salary he wants

Volume scorer that isn't shooting at a great clip that doesn't play defense.
I think he'll land somewhere, but if he isn't getting minutes and getting into a rhythm/getting hot his efficiency falls off a cliff too.
Loved watching him at LSU though.

Because out of all 78 NBA guards that average over 10 FG attempts per game he is 2nd to last in effective FG %

He’s a losing nba player. Shot chucker

Ball hog, doesnt make the team better, bad defender, bad teammate, went from starter to the bench. Undersized shooting guard.
he can score, but he is not worth it.

It’s not great but to just waive him and get nothing in return seemed strange. Granted I haven’t watched a Nets game in three years so maybe it’s justified.

Some nba insiders were on Twitter a month ago saying there was “literally zero trade market” for Cam. I couldn’t believe it either given some of the horrendous guards around the league that keep getting opportunities. But then I slowly kept an eye on it, and when I would check box scores he seemed to barely play or do anything. I guess the only way to trade him is with a package of other players. Still seems weird but he just isn’t well received by front offices
Also, even at LSU, he was quiet and just did his work and went home. That can be good and bad. When you aren’t efficient and have no friends on the team, you’re very expendable

Same.
He was a quintessential American “AAU era” style player at LSU: undeniable talent with tons of undeniable issues that were correctable but that hadn’t been corrected.
He’s not a guy a winning NBA team would want playing big minutes and he doesn’t seem like a guy who’d be content playing a bench role within a winning system.

It looks like of every qualifying guard in the NBA, he was 2nd to last in shooting %.
And he’s what, bottom 5 in the league in intangibles? How’s his defense?

And a coach who refused to correct him and fed into his mindset. He would have been much better off if some coach somewhere down the line put their foot down with him. He has the talent to be a really highly paid NBA player, but not the attitude.

My understanding is that Coach Will Wade is recruiting him to North Carolina State as we speak to utilize his unused eligibility.

if he goes somewhere with good vets, a good coach and is content being a scoring option with a second unit he could be useful
he will probably end up somewhere shitty though

I remember there being discussion on them not being able to come to a long term deal in the offseason then I watch 0 Nets games and then see the news today and was confused. Apparently he’s regressed further and had injuries but still thought he had some trade value. fricking Lonzo got traded averaging 4 ppg with paper mache knees.
