For the first time in 12 years, NHL players are back at the Olympic Games and it will be Best on Best.
With one more day on the NHL schedule before the long break, the Men's competition won't begin until February 11th. Three 4-team groups will start in the Preliminary Round, with all 12 teams advancing to the Playoff Round.
Nearly 150 NHL players will participate in the tournament, with each of 32 teams having at least one representative for the Milano Cortina games. The Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, and Tampa Bay Lightning lead the way with 9 skaters apiece.
Full list of NHL Players
Team Rosters by Country
The games will be hosted at two venues in Milan, one of which just finished construction. The full schedule for the Preliminary Round games can be found here.
Meanwhile, the Women's competition is already underway with the first puck drop earlier this morning. Team USA has their first game against Czech Republic in a little over an hour - availalbe on USA Network and Peacock.
TV channels: NBC, CNBC, USA Network
Streaming: Peacock, NBCOlympics.com, NBC.com, NBC app, NBC Sports app

Have to give the girls credit—except for the ponytails it is almost indistinguishable from boys high school hockey!

Team USA is absolutely loaded. Can not wait

Team USA Women win their first game 5-1.
They are the favorites to win Gold according to the Oddsmakers, followed by Team Canada.

I don’t follow hockey at all really but am rewatching Miracle for the first time in ages which had me curious. Didn’t realize that USA hadn’t won a gold medal since 1980. Figured with the NHL talent we would be right there with Canada and Russia over the past several decades.
Is it because we typically don’t send pro players to the Olympics and instead have sent college players like we did in 1980 ever since? if so, with the Olympics being in the middle of the NHL season why this year are we sending all NHL players this go round?

No NHL players at the last couple were lame as frick. The 2010 and 2014 men’s hockey tournaments were incredible.

Not getting my hopes up we will find away to lose to Canada. D

A little confused on format, why have the preliminary round if everyone advances

I have never liked it, but it's been this way for a while now.

Analyzing those rosters-Team Canada is an absolute WAGON. Yikes. Celebrini is the guy I'm looking forward to watching score goals for them. I think it's going to be where he solidifies his superstar status. So many Avs-as God intended.
The US has a lot of talent and toughness and depth but not the true superstar power down the roster-unless those top two lines get hot-I'm just not feeling it .I could see Brock Nelson going off. Also, Dylan Larkin-he's so sneaky.
Sweden has an outstanding roster and the Fins look solid. I really like this Swede team if they come to play.
Will miss the Russkies.

Yeah, this event at the Olympics is not the same with them missing.

The Swedes definitely look good. Should be a competitive tournament at the top

Sweden is very injured so I'm guessing they won't have their usual showing
Canada, USA, Finland, and Czechia in the final four
Hoping for a Canada USA gold medal game - Canada top end talent vs USA goaltending and D strength
Thinking Canada gets the gold

Love that Swede lineup-a lot of guys who have won and a lot of leaders.

USA Women about to play their second game against Finland.
Finland’s first game was postponed because the whole team had the flu bug. Didn’t know they could just cancel games like that

Norovirus is nasty. They'd run the risk of most of the teams at the games getting sick if they played (and honestly, when you have that shite you're not able to play).

The end of the rink is so dark it's hard to see around the boards

Well, if they could stop invading their neighbors and act like civilized people, they could play with the big boys too! But as long as Putin insists on acting like it’s still the 19th century, they can stay in time out. Kind of nice not to have to deal with a country that considers doping and test evasion as its own Olympic sport!
