Perfectly content aging peacefully w my copious stacks of hard media.

Avoiding the outside maelstrom of garbage pop culture/eschewing AI distortion till the day I croak.

It might be more "photorealistic" but it's definitely pretty soulless.

The one thing AI will be able to do is correct the last season of Game of Thrones. My body is ready.

AI is getting insane, but I certainly hope the opening of Stormlight/Way of Kings looks better than that

You hit the nail on the head. These AI videos the hey claim will end Hollywood lack soul. You can feel it when watching.

Not really. Looks pretty AI to me, and not very well done.

Looks like another action/super hero, villian movie, which we have a gazillion of. I guess it will make the creator some decent money instead of trying to have a major company greenlight it with tens of millions of dollars. Real film will survive in some way. And the films will be better.

Yeah it looks soulless but the intent isn’t to look at this like a trailer that they want to market to audiences to go pay to see a movie. You’re supposed to look at this and think back to what was coming out from AI ~2 years ago or less. Mostly stills that might move slightly. Like the balenciaga memes.

We are in baby’s first steps territory right now. I won’t be surprised if instead of giving the prompts this guy did, you could end up just saying “make me a movie from Brandon Sanderson’s book The Way of Kings” in a couple years and have something light years better looking than the X post in OP

Personally, I look at stuff like this and look forward to the future because how many times now has a fanbase been burned on a book to screen adaptation that is utter shite, and nothing like the book? Or it hasn’t ever been made at all because the studios look at it and decide they will never make any money on it. Now there’s possibilities that there never were before

Fantastic. It looks like any action film that has come out the last five years.

That was made in 2 days by some random dude.

Imagine someone creative and with great writing having 3 months with that...

This is the future, people are already complaining about the long waits between seasons like house of the dragon, stranger things etc. This is the solution to that problem and the AI is only going to get better and more capable over time

To me it isn’t about telling the difference. It is about unlocking cinema to the entire world. The fact it costs millions of dollars to make a decent movie inherently coalesces the marketplace of ideas to a small hive mind group in Hollywood. Sure, occasionally a small budget or decent movie slips through, but those are the exceptions.

I embrace this because it allows individual creative teams to build a story and put it in the marketplace. The audience then gets to decide what they want to see.

In nearly every movie that is produced today, my world view is mocked, belittled or “challenged” in a way that completely misrepresents the belief.

If AI is what eliminates the gatekeeping of Hollywood, I say bring it on.

AI could be used to fill gaps or make corrections, but in the end…it’s still cgi. Soulless cgi. Realistic looking ai slop characters might make a compelling reel on social media, but don’t see it translating to feature length movies where people still crave storytelling that features an actor with a soul.

Of course a generation goes by that is raised by AI and that theory goes out the window.

exactly. As long as there are real directors and real actors still working, AI will be a powerful tool to augment VFX and Stunts. I am seeing it firsthand.

Now for commercials and music videos with little to no dialogue -- it will be a full creation tool for a 1 minute spot or 3 minute video. Since it's a commercial endeavor, people will expect the automation from companies. Now, once all the greats are gone and the next few generations who grew up on phones take over --- who knows really. I'm glad I won't be around to see it.

What makes it soulless? The AI that I’m talking about that will shake Hollywood still has to have a compelling story written by a human that truly understands the human soul. The story is the compelling part and the acting is a requirement to make the story compelling. When the AI gets to a point that most people cannot truly tell a difference between CGI and a person, it will fulfill the compelling acting checkbox that makes the story compelling.

The technology isn’t quite there yet, but it isn’t far off.

Even if it isn’t absolutely perfect, there is a huge audience that is begging for entertainment that doesn’t spit in their faces. Even if the production is only 80% “as good” as the current movie production, there are a lot of people will be willing to accept that.

If anyone believes that giving the keys to production over to conservative "creators" will usher in an age of great works, history says otherwise. Sure, you'll get movies espousing your worldview, but they'll be of the same basic ilk put out by the existing conservative studios. The creative side of Hollywood isn't run by liberals because of some political takeover or secret cabal. It's because creative people are (by and large) liberals.

And with AI, you're conceding that for you to be an artist, you have to steal from the liberals, gays, and blacks that created the pool of art that you're looting from. Which (if you can rationalize past that) is the perfect formula to make money or to distort creative reality to fit your needs.
