Basketball has hit rock bottom: students are being forced to stay for the game!

So many students are going for the free swag and then leaving the arena that the university has threatened to take their student tickets!

If I were a student, I would just refuse to have my ticket scanned as I leave. Or just say I lost it if it is a paper ticket. What are they going to do?

it's a great life lesson for them about commitment. You can't always just show up, get what you want, then leave. Their tickets are already free. Won't kill them to stick around til halftime.

Or tell them you just got a call and there is a family emergency.

So it's not free? Perhaps LSU needs to think about why they are having this issue and address it?

It’s also a great lesson on socialism.

Since it's now all about the money, stadiums and arenas should limit the # of student tickets and ear mark those tickets to the general public who not only goes, but stays.

Some are up in arms about this, but I think the goal is to make sure the kids who DO stay for the game get whatever the giveaway is that day vs the one who are just coming to get the item then leaving before the game even starts.
The ones being "punished" are the ones not attending the game anyway. So what does it matter if they're banned? They weren't staying for the game in the first place

Why does it matter if they leave early? They have no impact on the game anyway.

So it's not free?
Fire the coach please, but this is logical stuff for LSU to do.

What does white board guy think about all of this?

Are you just fricking mining downvotes
It’s a goddamn entertainment perk for their $50k (in-state) undergrad tuition. Ain’t nobody redeeming student tickets for life lessons, they ought to just quit showing up period.
If LSU is that worried about free swag, then either quit giving away free swag or give it away at the exits / end of the game. Simple.

Just replace the coach, start winning, seats will fill up… problem solved…

Will be one of the first people complaining about the student section emptying out during football games.

LSU MBB is currently generally an underwhelming watch. I love my kids and truly want the best for them. But making them stay to watch an inferior program flop around like a fish out of water on the way to another loss?
Naw, that doesn’t build character.

The reason LSU...and any team...does this is to encourage/incentivize attending the game. Obviously, there are enough students coming out, getting the item, then leaving. And why not? There is no entry fee. However, the items being given away are limited in number. So you potentially get a scenario where a kid is enticed to come out and attend the game because of the giveaway that day...only to find all of the items are gone by the time he/she arrives...so he/she leaves. In that situation you had a potential fan who would have stayed leave because others who had no plans on attending the actual game in the first place took the item and left before the game even started.
LSU's not forcing anyone to stay until the end of the game. They are punishing them for not staying for at least the literal first few seconds of the game. Under usual circumstances a fan purchased a ticket. That alone is generally enough to incentivize one to stay for at least some portion of the actual game. But here, the fan didn't purchase at ticket. They get in free. So the only "cost" to them is the time spent walking in, grabbing the item, then leaving...often to try to resell the item.
It's hard to one hand scream "LSU needs to do more to promote the program"...then become outraged when they are taking steps to incentivize attendance vs. just giving away free shite to people who don't attend even the start of the game.

They are making them "stay" for literally 1 second. The policy doesn't require a student to stay for the entire game. Just the tip-off. It's to disincentivize those who aren't there to actually attend the game..at all.

Get a new coach, win games,go to the tournament and the students will stay! Why should they stick around when the team is getting blown out by South Carolina, and Mississippi state in the 1st half, home games that the team should be thumping on there floor that's why there leaving!

I have no issue with people showing up, getting the giveaway and leaving. It’s on LSU to fix the basketball program and make fans want to stay.
These season passes or whatever they are for students to get earlier than other students were purchased, right? They essentially purchased the right to get giveaways.
In the new world of nonstop lawsuits in college sports, this looks like one that LSU would most certainly lose if someone pursued it and someone come out looking even worse than they already do.
