Cast Covers and Any Other Helpful Tips

I just found out today that I broke my ankle in 3 places and will have to have it surgically repaired and I'm looking for recommendations on cast covers or any other options so I can wash myself over the next 2 months or better. Any tips on what to do with my time would be appreciated to, I can't post on Tigerdroppings 24/7 for 2 months, or at least I probably shouldn't
This is going to suck, I've never been laid up for an extended amount of time and I'm more than a little nervous about it

Are you sure they just won’t put you in an orthopedic boot?
I had ankle surgery in 2020 and no cast.
Even with that you have to wait a few weeks before submerging the incisions and staples. But it is much nicer than dealing with a cast.

We bought ones for my knee on Amazon. Worked fine for me. Search there. And good luck with your recovery.

That I'm not sure yet, I'm meeting with the surgeon Friday and I'll definitely ask for sure. I'm just looking for ideas for now.
Thanks for the suggestions so far folks, even the trash bag, all ideas are welcome

This. I've had to have 2 ankle surgeries over the past 2 years and got one of those plastic and metal seats to go in the tub and used the hand-held shower head to wash.
I put a plastic bag over my foot initially and tied off the top as best I could to seal it. That got old and then decided to just let my foot hang outside the tub and be careful with the water to not go everywhere.
I could not put ANY weight on my foot for 4 months after surgery so I got one of those knee carts to get around the house and that was well worth it.
My other alternative was to use crutches all the time and that is a PITA, especially late at night when my bladder would wake me up to pee and doing that half asleep on crutches was no fun.

A thick padded sock over the cast will protect your good ankle and help you sleep. Duct tape and trash bag for bathing

I had a really cute Thai chick come give me a sponge bath & “special massage” 5x per week. Was totally worth it…

Oh my God, if you don't mind me asking what did you do for all that time? Just the thought of being stuck in the house watching TV for 2 months is driving me nuts. Maybe some sort of hobby?

Knitting, crochet, puzzles, models, legos, adult coloring books, meal planning, filling out birthday/holiday cards in advance, cleaning your computer desktop, digitizing old photos, organizing photo albums, reviewing and fine tuning your finances, etc...

For an adult coloring book, may I suggest the Llama Sutra?

My hobbies are throwing darts, shooting pool, working my big vegetable garden and doing woodworking--------------all of which were put on hold.
Yeah, I pretty much became a couch potato. I do all the cooking in the house being long retired so I still did that, but it was a good bit harder to accomplish. I would go to the store with my wife and have to humble myself and ride in one of those electric carts just to get out the house and see people other than on doctor's appointments.
It was maddening for me since I like to do things around the house and maintain my property. It was the first time in my life I ever paid someone to do my grass and it was killing me.
The first surgery was when I was 71 and the second was almost exactly 1 year later at 72. I'm now 15 months post surgery from the 2nd one and doing fine.

Here's my advice. Do EXACTLY what the Dr. tell you and do not try to rush it. Your ankle is such a small joint with a ton of bones, ligaments, tendons, etc. and the fact it takes all your weight on every step makes it a very critical joint and one to easily injure if you try to do too much too soon.
Once you get to PT, again do what they tell you to do and do it as good as you can. After a while they may give you things to do at home between treatments--------------do them too, but don't overdo it.
Good luck with the surgery.
