FWIW, similar experience just north of Natchez, as compared to last year.

I appreciate it. Just looking to see how to improve.

The Deer never came out to the food plots, until this weekend. No movement in the woods. Seemed like they had plenty to eat close to their beds.

Rut was never seen, but could tell it was over last weekend by what I saw

SW Miss Union Church area
Deer didn't give a shite about corn or food plots until last week.
Very very nocturnal
The only reason I killed a big fat doe was I jacked a tree deep in the woods in the middle of a shite ton of acorns.
Rut happened Jan 4-10, I actually saw a buck running two does, but let his little six point arse go.
Overall a terrible season due to the acorn crop.

Worse season in a long time. Got two does early and didn’t see a rack buck all season. We have primarily hard woods near Woodville. Huge acorn crop killed us. Corn rotted on the ground and food plots look great because they had zero deer in them

Woodville area. Similar story to everyone else. Killed a doe in November. I didn’t see deer on food plots at all. I hunted trails and crossings and saw deer on 50% of hunts, but no bucks worth shooting. I saw four 3 1/2 year old bucks all season. I held out for a 4+ year old deer and never saw one. This is only my 3rd year ever hunting. I killed a 3.5 year old buck each of my first two years and I told myself I would wait for something more mature. Maybe next year.

I shot a couple of does. I usually hunt feed trees early season but it was hard to find one that was tore up since they had so many to choose from. Saw a lot of deer on funnels, mostly out of bow range.

Doe #2 that I shot last saturday with my 444 would have been a chip shot with my bow.

Something I’ve thought about. Yes it was a ridiculous acorn season but what if the deer numbers are down because for a long time now we have been able to shoot does all season long? I’m just wondering. I’m sure the experts know what they are doing but it makes me wonder

I blame the acorns too. Now that it is cold and the acorns are sour the deer seem to be everywhere.

The good news (bright side of this) is that the does are very fat and healthy.....hopefully they all were bred... and they will have plenty of food going into February (a stress month) with the food plots basically untouched or up enough to resist heavy browse pressure.....

this means that they will birth very healthy offspring and those offspring will be off to the best head-start we've probably had in my lifetime (I'm 42). This year will produce large bucks 3-5 years down the road.

So, next year we need to hammer the doe population down early on my place.

Same in Southeast MS. Plenty of acorns and no deer on the foodplots or pineywoods. Shot both of my deer in the hardwood SMZs near the creek.

Quitman Miss bad year first very hpt, acorns, then after opening weekend very nocturnal - weve been on DMAP for a few years and the more does we shoot the more we see and more bucks but at night - this year we shot half of the last three years - hogs almost disappeared no agriculture just trees around us and there was a lot of logging but still seeing plenty at night -Season should be open longer so cold weather gets them moving

Good and bad. SW of woodville. Didn’t really have any shooters on the place, so that was a little disappointing. But saw deer every hunt, including having opportunities at the best bucks I did have. Killed enough meat for the fam.

Had deer consistently on plots/feeders until mid November (assuming white oaks started dropping then). Very scattered sightings and pictures rest of season on private lands. As of Fri January 30th deer were still eating acorns. Had 2 does come in on me sniffing through the leaves and crunching on acorns 20’ from me while I was sitting on a hillside.

Next season is setting up to be a good season for plots/feeder cause no way they’ll have acorns like this past season for a while. Lots of bucks made it this season that will have another year of growth also. I predict an above average season for everyone next year.

Public lands I had a few more sightings than I usually do and let a couple legal bucks waiting on something older. I did kill one buck on public early December that was grunting and chasing a doe with another buck.

My oldest son ended the season with 2 beautiful bucks and a doe. My youngest mistakenly let a mature (3.5yr or older) walk that our neighbor killed and missed a decent buck with his crossbow but did take 1 doe. Wife missed a decent buck a week ago and he made it this season (just had pics come in from him) and he’ll be a stud next season! I killed one 2.5yr old 8pt on public, one 3.5yr old 8pt and one 3.5yr old 4pt on private.

Overall just my family of 4 and couple friends the boys brought we killed 5 bucks and 5 does.

Yep. We had deer at each stand on cam 2-3 sessions each day prior to opening day; once they let the dogs out we only had a few nocturnal deer. Thats why I switched to hunting the little hardwood strips; couldnt see far but you did see a few deer.

2 a year is all I care to shoot; but I had to put in a lot of time for them when it looked like it would be easy before the season.

Terrible season for us in Jefferson county. Work was slow this season so I was able to hunt more than I ever have, and saw the least amount of deer I ever have.

Closer to the LA state line south of woodville - same. LOTS of acorns. Which means I would have to actually move around and hunt. I didn't have a ton of time and I've never been known to do that anyway.

I did see a lot of turkeys - must have been a bumper hatch 2 years ago. Excited for that. Youth is only 4.5 weeks, full season 5.5 weeks away. Gotta do some listening in the next few weeks.
