Elon Musk has hit out at filmmaker Christopher Nolan, claiming the Oscar-winning director has lost “integrity” because of his casting choices. Nolan is currently in post-production on The Odyssey, his adaptation of the ancient Greek epic by Homer.

quote:

The film will feature an all-star cast that includes Matt Damon. Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Mia Goth and Benny Safdie. Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, who is Black, also reportedly joined the cast. It was reported on social media she has been cast as Helen of Troy.

quote:

In response to the news, a user on Musk’s platform X wrote: “Helen of Troy was fair skinned, blonde, and ‘the face that launched a thousand ships’ because she was so beautiful that men started a war over her. Casting choices that make the premise incoherent are admissions that the story was never the point and an insult to the author.”

Movies are awful now because of this garbage. It's like black Vikings, black Helen of Troy, King Arthur's knights. Why not just make everybody black? Dumb AF.

Artistic license is not a hill to die on.

Keep the powder dry for real issues.

Well, my brother called me yesterday to tell me this.

At first, I didn't think to much about it. Odyssey looks like a great film, from one of my favorite filmmakers.

Then I saw the actress chosen... Why Chris?

The original text said she had fair or blonde hair with alabaster skin.

PS - Yesterday, on reddit, they were defending Nolan's choice... only a couple of people pointed out that Diane Kruger was much more in keeping of the vision.

Oh well, another movie not to see.

PS - because rules.

Politics is downstream of culture. How do you think we ended up here?

For any of you interested in movie ideas - because I know all of you are just dying to fund new movies - here are some:

1. Recreate any pre-civil war movie with white people cast as slaves.

2. Remake the Wakanda/Black Panther stuff but with just white people.

3. Remake WW2 movies but with black people as Nazis.

Those are just a few, but they all make about as much sense as everything else these days.

This is why we must support "Wuthering Heights" when it hits theatres later this month,.

It's the ONE TIME in our lives that a "dark skinned" character from a historical novel has been replaced by a handsome white man, and the entire artsy left is positively SEETHING over it.

Bonus: you get to see Margot Robbie en flagrante

On the one hand, Lupita Nyong’o is a fantastic actress.

On the other hand, "frick #Woke Hollywood."

Get back to me when DDL is cast to play MLK.

I'm still grateful that Idris Elba was never made James Bond. That would have pissed me off as much as everything else we've seen combined.

Have no issue with this.

That being said, would have no issue with a white actor playing a black historical figure.

I doubt that would fly though, so keep it accurate.

Yes, Helen of Troy should be a Greek woman with hairy arms and the vague outline of a mustache that grows and grows thicker through the course of the day.
