What happened to South Africa?

I can’t get a straight answer on Reddit. With people giving me responses like “corruption, income inequality, too much debt.”
But what happened to get them to the place they’re in now? You know, massive unemployment, crippled economy, etc? It was booming just over a decade ago.

Do you honestly not know the answer to that?

I only hear negatives about it and I’m sure it’s mostly true, but some family of mine just went and spent 10 days there and stayed in two different places and they love it. Two of them honeymooned there 10 years ago.

Do you seriously need somebody to explain this to you.
Hint: It’s impossible to explain without coming across as racist. I will say that tribalism cannot replace actual governance.

I’m willing to boost their economy if I could get regular shipments of biltong.

It is pretty easy to do a deep dive into the timeline of what happened & post it but posters like SFP, Froman, & 4Cubbies will call us racists & beg Chicken to ban us for our heartlessness.

The same thing that happened to Rhodesia.

Natives took over…the rest is history

Went there in 2018 on safari in Kruger national park and then Cape Town. Was the most awesome trip I’ve ever done.

Every south Asian country with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 was a colony 100 years ago, and they're all faring better than any country in Africa these days.
Using the "but colonization" excuse to explain away all of Africa's problems is lazy and dopey. Indonesia didn't become a country until the 1940s and now they have one of the 10 biggest economies.

BASICALLY:
White man comes and builds infrastructure and society
Natives are like thanks for the free pavement and electricity, we've got it from here
White South African is like no you don't
European and/or Da Jooz are like we ain't funding this, y'all figure it out
Nobody figures it out
Society collapses. A few whites are doing alright, but they're targets. Pavement is now gravel and dey burnin candles, but NELSON MANDELA
I think this is exactly how it happened.

Key Regions and Examples of British Colonization:
Africa: Botswana, Egypt, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Nigeria, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Americas & Caribbean: Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, and the original 13 Colonies of the United States.
Asia: Bangladesh, Brunei, Hong Kong, India, Iraq, Israel/Palestine, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar (Burma), Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
Oceania: Australia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Tuvalu.
Europe: Cyprus, Ireland, and Malta.
I still can’t detect a trend and put this together. The highlighted countries are prosperous despite being colonized.

Well, South Africa wasn’t a British colony originally. It was a Dutch colony.
