Looking to buy a new car in the next month or so - how stingy have the dealerships been?

How stingy have the dealerships been on negotiating down the prices? I know not all are the same, but just looking for a general feel for those who have recently purchased

It’ll be a midsize SUV for sure, 3 rows

Consider the Hyundai Palisade and Toyota Highlander, but wife prefers the Palisade

You gotta out stingy them baw, jew 'em down and best course of action is to play hard ball. Find something, keep your cards to your chest and dont accept unless you get what you're absolutely satisfied with and make sure if they do give you that, you read the fine print to make sure they didnt slip something in there to frick you. Car dealerships and the whole buying a car process is some of life's worst first world problems, hope it works out for you and ya ole lady

We looked at those same two cars and eventually went with the Highlander. Hyundai dealership played games and were just said frick off we’re going with the more reliable vehicle

You can either pay MSRP or continue driving what you have.

If you’re looking for a new Tahoe or Yukon good luck

They barely take any money off them things bc they know people will buy them anyway for a 84 month lease to keep the notes down.

They are not taking as much off MSRP as they used to, but it’s still worth finding a few dealerships that sell the vehicle you want and have them compete against each other.

I was car shopping a few weeks ago and one dealership was being a pain in the arse with their tactic of trying to work the price bases on their “invoice” cost. Sales guy was showing me the breakdown and pointing out they would only make $300 on the deal.
As I was about to leave he said they could go down $300 more and would be break even. LOL I guess the normal buyer is a dumbass and believes this crap.

You should have called him a no good low down rotten dog shite balled face liar before walking out.

Just trying to do your job is one thing. Lying is another, and it isnt necessary to lie to make a sale. It should be a simple business transaction between two parties.

I suggest going to carmax (or something similar) and getting a quote from them for your current car. Use the carmax quote to make sure they give you a fair deal on the trade in.

You should be able to get 20-25% off invoice. Lots are full. Make sure to not buy one that's been on the lot 800 days

The general public has no idea what invoice really is.
And which lots are full? Some might be, but most aren’t.

Toyota is the better car for resell and dependability. Why not go that route?
