I’ve never visited, but I do think it’s interesting that with all of the shite we are seeing about Minneapolis, St. Paul seems relatively quiet by comparison. The skyline looks nice. I see the recent mayors are (D), one of which was all about reparations. A sizable demographic shift over the last couple of decades, but what else is new?

I wouldn’t mind checking out the Wild and the St. Paul Saints, one of the more legendary MiLB franchises.

West of the red dotted line is Minneapolis. East is St Paul. You can see the major differences

St Paul hosts the Minnesota State Fair, and it's awesome.

Minneapolis and St. Paul are effectively the same city. The St. Paul side is pretty quiet and is usually mostly dead after like 6 PM. If you’re visiting you’re going to want to go to Minneapolis.

Give it a week or two and most of ICE will be gone and Minneapolis will be back to being awesome

Downtown Minny is pretty dead too these days. North Loop kinda has stuff going on but everything downtown now feels dead

It’s not as bad as Scottsdale acting like it’s a different place than Phoenix, but yeah pretty much. If this was Jacksonville it would all just be Jacksonville. It’s kind of arbitrary

When was it awesome?

Prior to the brother fricker maybe, i heard Minnesota was a pretty nice place. But there’s been an influx of Somalis for a long arse time. Even watching random YouTube videos of the mall in Minnesota, not about immigration, you can see in the background the majority demographic is Somali.

What a shite place to be. I wouldn’t go there until ICE guts that place

Are there a lot of Somalis? Yes.

As a southern person it’s hardly noticeable. Minneapolis is 55% white. That’s unheard of for a major city in the south

You drop a southern man here randomly they would feel like it’s the whitest big city in the country

Went on business about ten years ago. What I remember: There is a big Catholic cathedral. There is an old neighborhood up on a bluff with some of the most spectacular large stone houses I've ever seen. Unbelievably beautiful neighborhood. Oh, and a lot of leftists.

The entire twin city area has gorgeous houses/ neighborhoods

Unique non cookie cutter, always has sidewalks, beautiful hydrangeas everywhere and landscaping, etc

Love the houses here

I was based out of Minneapolis for some years. Fortune 500 companies thrived there. The people, while different (no gray, just black and white) were affable enough although their food sucked.
Then the Somali invasion began. First it was no picking up passengers at the airport coming back from cruises with liquor, then it was no handling of pork at checkout aisles in grocery stores. Followed by the mandate to implement feet washing tubs and prayer areas to bow to Mecca several times throughout the day.
It stopped being a part of America 10+ years ago. but the locals never recognized that.
What used to be a vibrant downtown (Nicolette St among others) is now a ghost town due to homelessness and vagrants.
My company still is active there. I used to enjoy my layovers there but now avoid it.

Crazy…but if you look at the demographics of St. Paul, it was 80% white in 1990. It’s now below 50%, with a rise in Asians and AA. The change hasn’t been nearly as drastic in Minneapolis.
