Looking at the text of the posts, I'm a little concerned with the phrasing of "criminal public safety risks"... sounds like something left up to interpretation.

Is an illegal brought in for speeding, no license and no insurance a risk?

Just "violent" stuff?

Theft, robbery?

Drug possession?

What qualifies and who decides?

The only reason they were knocking on doors was due to the state’s unwillingness to turn them over at the courts and prisons.

Why did he purposefully emphasize the “may” notify ice of that release? Maybe I’m reading too much into it. Could be that it would still be their decision whether or not they do so? Would rather have heard “will” or “shall” notify

May notify is not really good enough. Shall notify sounds better.

It’s the trade off we want. For a couple of reasons.

1) The leftist foot soldiers will be pissed as hell that there’s any trade off. They will be furious with Minnesota state government.

2) The first people we should be deporting are public threats. If we get to the point we can move to just deporting randos, great. We need to focus on the criminal element first.

Agreed.

He is capable, direct and measured. His no nonsense approach is a breath of fresh air in an administration that seems to seek chaos at times.

Makes sense. Homan was an Obama appointee, decorated, experienced, been doing this for a long time.

He might be corrupt (the cash he clearly took from fbi agents) but at least he’s pragmatic and competent.

Good to see a very public point being made that even some of us on the board have spoken to sometimes in all these various threads:

To our Lefties - If you and your party decided at some point back that you no longer liked Immigration laws (for whatever your reasons may be), take it to your Representatives in Washington D.C.

There’s already an established, time-honored process in place in this country for addressing and potentially changing current laws.

You and your party don’t just arbitrarily decide you aren’t going to follow those laws anymore and declare yourselves “sanctuaries” from those laws.

You and Your Party hold the responsibility for ALL that is currently going on. Because you selfish, childish twits want it your way NOW.

has clarified for me that county jails may notify ICE of the release dates of criminal public safety risks, so ICE can take custody of them

May =/= "shall", which should have been the order. The MN brass are just stonewalling to preserve the status quo as is. No surprise.

Also:
quote:

criminal public safety risks

Who makes that determination? That does absolutely nothing to crack down on literally anyone that has entered or remained in MN illegally. That's a bunch of talk and a literal nothingburger. I respect Homan and like the guy. He's too smart to not sniff out the obvious stall tactics that change literally nothing. I hope he has contingencies on deck, or nothing changes.

ETA:

Also again...

quote:

Tom Homan confirms Minnesota county jails will now NOTIFY ICE when public safety threat illegal aliens are being released[/b]

^^^ THAT ^^^ is why i will NEVER take Eric Daugherty at his word. That is his own version of reality, and not at all what Homan said. As a "journalist" and "insider", this guy absolutely understands that there's a difference between MAY and WILL. But he's writes it up in the context that it's some huge win, just by putting a cute little spin on the verbiage.

Homan has accomplished nothing except for letting MN officials waste his time. Again, I hope he has contingencies. And if i see Trump tweet out a truth about this "YUGE VICTORY", I'm pretty much done with this admin.

So they just simply won't arrest them anymore. This is a shell game. I think he's playing along with them but doesn't believe it himself
