Rockstar Games is allegedly playing with the idea of delaying physical copies of GTA VI to avoid leaks, instead launching with digital copies first. We’re less than a year away from the launch of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, in what will most likely be the biggest game of 2026 by quite some margin.

Guess I'll be delaying my purchase then.

Good games aren't afraid of "leaks" unless they are heavily story dependent, which GTA has never been.

I bet it is something with gays or trannies.

Or positive/negative Trump stand-ins

I hate that my brain goes there, but I cant think of what could be seen that would affect game sales, other than those things.

Yeah Rockstar has very much become a smells their own farts type company over the years unfortunately.

Nobody expects or particularly wants GTA games to be RDR2 in terms of story and character.

They think they are writing Shakespeare over there but in reality I just want to go to the strip club and see digital titties and then maybe attack the whole place with a flame thrower if I get bored.

That's why GTA is popular, not the heartfelt relationship between Niko and Roman or whatever.

I think it's probably both. If I'm throwing a dart, they likely attempted to lampoon both sides in a way that 80% of the population will find funny/won't give a shite about, but that 20% will froth over, so they want the 80% actively enjoying the game to drown out the frothing 20%.

Is it too much to ask for just a game where I can smack a ho around a few times then run her over?

I'm a simple man with simple needs in my gaming.

I would imagine for the digital version of this game the file size will take up most of the system's memory

Isn't it cheaper for rockstar to sell digital copies? Isn't this actually just about money? I could be off on that though but I figured that's what this was about.

The stopping it from leaks just adds to the mystique of this game anyway.

I will never buy a Rockstar game again if they switch to a digital only release. Or any AAA developer for that matter.

They do this to try and double dip as much as possible.

Most buy digital at this stage but it could convince some with a physical preference to buy it twice.

Then they’ll do a next gen re-release and a pc release.

It’s all based in maximizing sales for this title since we won’t get a peep about gta VII until we are all rotting in the ground.

That's what I was trying to say in my post. Didn't mean digital only.

What is the physical copy going to even be? Its own console?

And their reasoning for delaying the physical copy is to stop leaks? Won’t there still be just as many leaks with people playing the digital copy?
