What’s the longest you’ve gone without sleeping?

Can’t recall what my record is, but I’m currently on hour 33 straight without sleep. I’m not tired at all at the moment, but hoping I’ll crash tonight. My sleep schedule has been wrecked over the last few months traveling back and forth all over different time zones for work. It’s been an ongoing concern for me where I just lay in bed unable to drift off till usually around 3-4am then wide awake a few hours later. Been laying off coffee completely, taking magnesium at night, black out curtains in the bedroom and closing my eyes, but I’m still wide awake at night. Trying to introduce direct sunlight as soon as I wake up to resynchronize my circadian rhythm. Decided to try a more drastic approach of CBT known as paradoxical intention where I didn’t even bother trying to drift off last night and drank 3 cups of coffee this morning between 6-8am. Hoping this strategic delay will have me dozing off around a reasonable time tonight so I can get a full 8 hours then try to repeat a normal sleep schedule tomorrow and so on. Anyone ever deal with these mini episodes of insomnia? What’s helped you establish a normal sleep schedule?

Hell week

I think I went about 60 hrs with no sleep

Second would be after the birth of my kid. I think I was at around 48 or so on that one.

I did almost 2 full days once.

I had one week where I had like 6 hours sleep over 4 days or some shite. That was a bad week

In my 30’s driving 24 hrs straight was doable

In my 40’s I could supervise a crew for 24 hours straight with enough coffee
But it would darn near kill me

Now I doubt I could make it 20 hrs without passing out

30ish hours for our version of "hell weekend"

They let us take a 2-3 hour nap, then kept us up for another 24 hours. Think I slept for 16 hours after

Jeez. Can’t imagine how miserable that experience must have been.

A little over three days. I was trying to make it to five days straight in the summer of 2005 but I couldn't do it.

It was more than 2 days but less than 3, and it was out of necessity - not insomnia or anything. I've done a few 24-36 hour rounds in the last year or so to hit work deadlines or whatever, and I'm definitely too old for this now.

ETA: I've also done less than 10 cumulative hours of sleep over the course of 7 days a couple of times and that too will make you wish you were dead. Do not recommend.

My flight back from Japan to Nashville involved a 7 hour layover in Vancouver, and a stop in Chicago with me arriving in Nashville at 6am. My overly attached ex picked me up from the airport and wouldn’t let me sleep until 10pm that night.

I have a medical condition that sometimes causes extreme insomnia. Like crazy arse extreme insomnia. My record is between 6 and 7 days. It got fuzzy after day 6 so I'm not sure what happened at that point. Eventually your body just gives up but it won't kill you. If it continues to happen then high blood pressure will kill you

I’ve skipped sleep many times and went to bed the following night. 42 hours was my max I believe
