He advised CLK to come to LSU, called it the best job in the country, etc.

We should all be forever grateful to him for reviving the program, brining us a championship, setting the path of our program, etc, but it seems odd that he is all the sudden a supporter. The cynic in me wonders if he wants LSU to thrive and Bama fade. That way he can forever take full credit for the Bama program. Said another way - it wasn’t the Bama machine that drove nearly 2 decades of dominance - it was Nick freaking Saban.

Make no mistake, Saban is a huge Alabama fan and will always carry with him forever. They are his legacy as their coach but still has lots of love for LSU too while he was here.

The LSU Football that most younger fans know is due to Emmert and Saban.

All while still having an office in the building and getting $500k a year from Bama.

He knows he messed up when he went to the Dolphins. He thinks Lane can build his legacy at LSU. I could be wrong though.

I just saw a snippet where Saban said leaving LSU was the biggest career mistake he ever made. (I know, he's said it before, too).

Saban knows he screwed up. I give him credit for giving Lane his honest advice, even though it caused a little friction at the school where he's still being paid.

Deano Nick said years ago he regretted leaving LSU. He's not looking for Bama to collapse He's being honest, IMO.

When you get old, you have regrets. It’s simple. LSU was where he became an elite coach. Had he stayed here, he may have won 10 championships. I think he also in general just enjoyed his time here. Now that he’s not at Alabama, yes he can be an ambassador. I’ll take it.

Plus, cynically, I am sure Saban would like to see another team besides Bama (now that he’s gone) rise to SEC dominance. It makes what he did at Bama more special if they fail to sustain success without him.

Saban is still on Bama's payroll and still has an office there.

No. If he didn’t get the NFL itch he would have been at LSU until he retired. Saban will visit Lane from time to time while Lane is building his legacy.

Bless him. He's responsible for elevating the LSU program, winning national championships, and making us a relevant national power.

Fixed it for you.

It's probably not that deep.
