And since it's been so long nothing from them remains for us to discover?

Billions of years ago? no.

Were there civilizations on earth prior to modern Homo Sapiens? Probably.

Were there Homo Sapiens civilizations before the modern era? Yes. Obviously. Take a look at all these massive stones on these huge sites in Peru and Egypt and Syria. We couldn't do that to this day. And we obviously built on top of them.

We're a lot older than we can remember.

Just started thinking about it bc i saw an article about cave drawings from 67,800 years ago which is apparently 15,000 years older than the previously thought "oldest" and just started thinking 100,000 years a fraction of a blink of an eye in terms of billions of years. And how many times the earth has turned itself inside out over billions of years there would be nothing left to discover from them

I dunno but I do know that the thinkers back then had a lot of time to ponder and think of stuff without distraction.

I guess it’s how you view advanced as well. We still haven’t figured out the pyramids so I think they are pretty advanced in that area specifically.

But that’s just me.

For sure. There was absolutely at catastrophic flood that happens 10,000+ years ago. There is also lots of studies done that the period of growth and evolution in the Earth climate cycle has happened numerous times before. Basically the only things that would have been left behind were hard stone.

I'm of the opinion that the Sahara was once a grasslands that had an advanced civilization. The pyramids are from that civilization, not the ancient Egyptians. Or the ancient Egyptians were the end of that civilization because of the changing climate of the Sahara to desert.

Not sure about the billions part but I’m certain we aren’t the first advanced civilization of humans. A world cataclysm is certainly enough for all that knowledge to be lost hell look at the fall man caused with the dark ages. Also their tech may have been much different than our own and not left behind lasting evidence of tools etc.

Without a key code, really advanced civilizations, a few thousand years from now, will not understand the writing we use today. Languages come and go. Most get lost to time. Doesn't mean anything.

I'm not sure about "billions" of years ago but 100's of million? Yes, quite possible.

No. Could there potentially have been civilizations around before the ones we know about, with evidence either buried or now underwater? Sure. But not billions of years ago and I don't believe they would have been some advanced race or anything.

Not really a stretch there, guy. The Sahara was full of vegetation, lakes, etc., less than 10,000 years ago.

Its on a 20,000 year cycle or so of desertification and re-vegetation due to weather patterns and the earth's axial tilt.
