Australian Open 2026

Anyone been watching the Australian Open this year? I guess it shows how far tennis has fallen off without a thread being started and we're already to the 3rd round.
Its been pretty good so far with of course a few upsets as always. Sabalenka was taken to the brink yesterday and barely pulled it out. Alcaraz seems to be ramping up each match as he goes for the career slam. Tommy Paul is playing well, so he may be able to give Alcaraz a battle in the next round.
Its about to get good as we get to the later rounds and have some high ranking matchups.

I hear they are making it harder to watch with all the new platforms for viewing. You need a couple different tiers of ESPN streaming to be able to watch all the matches apparently?

Yes. Its been very annoying. Most matches are only available if you ESPN Unlimited which is ESPNs new standalone streaming service. You have the regular ESPN2 broadcast that doesn't start until 8 or 9 PM CST, a handful of matches that are ESPN+ and then the majority which are ESPN Unlimited. Was able to watch Mboko/Tauson yesterday on the Spanish ESPN as they were showing that match.

Dumbest fricking thing ever.
ESPN is a joke.
I have been using a VPN to Australia and watching for free on 9now.com.au

Some woke reporter tried to make an American feel bad for being American. That’s all I’ve seen so far.
Oh and on a separate note. Osaka was full of drama again.

Seems like there just hasn't been much coverage. Which is a little dissapointing considering there's a good chance that there will be at least 4 Americans in the Round of 16. (Paul, Tien, Fritz, Shelton; Quinn has a shot to make it 5).

ESPN making people jump through 10 different hoops to watch matches hasn't helped either.
TNT/TBS coverage of the French Open last year was so superior to ESPN's product.

Surprised it took this long for a thread this board is normally popping for majors. Watched Tien last night, he’s one to look out for. Pretty crafty lefty and only 20

I saw John McEnroe vs Björn Borg in 1981 in Flushing Medows. The last time Borg played in the US Open finals. That is when tennis was at its highest. It will never be there again. I was lucky I saw all the greats when I was in High School. I was very lucky my Step Father was a huge tennis fan. He took me all over to see the greats.

was Spizzirri down 4-1 in the 1st set and win 5 straight games to take it? Just turned it on…
That’s unbelievable if so, Sinner has dominated this open. Wonder if that’s the first time he’s lost 5 straight games here

Sinner is in trouble here.

Incredibly lucky they are stopping to close the roof.
Not sure if he will be able to recover though.

90’s tennis was the best.

There's been some hotties on the female side. I'm always rooting for GOATovic to win and hopefully somehow he can get his 25th here. It's his best chance left. Especially if somehow the American beats Sinner.

Not sure if it was lucky or planned out.

The AO just threw Sinner a life line …. complete BS

Very thankful I got locked out my sportsbook
I definitely would’ve cashed out at a loss going into that 3rd set on Sinner the way he looked. He was struggling bad with those cramps and couldn’t even leave his feet on the serve. did not think he would recover

Americans are doing pretty decent. I don’t follow tennis that closely, especially outside of majors, but they have an opportunity to put 10 players through to the round of 16 between the men’s and women’s if Fritz and Quinn win tonight.
10/32 remaining being from one country has to be close to record territory at any single major tourney I’d imagine
