quote:

Lawmakers in the House of Representatives voted on two separate packages on Thursday afternoon. One groups together three spending bills to fund the departments of War, Education, Labor, Transportation and Health and Human Services. The second is a standalone bill funding DHS, which includes ICE.

So this is where people are getting more and more pissed at this guy.

quote:

The DHS bill passed by a 220-207 vote with the help of seven Democrats. Only one Republican, Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., voted in opposition.

A standalone BILL that he always wants, yet he voted against it.

LINK

BTW...

quote:

Most Democrats bucked the DHS funding legislation after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and other top Democrats said they were opposed to the bill due to insufficient restrictions against President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

If there was any doubt, this settles it. What Republican would be against deporting illegal aliens?

In general, I use to not have an issue with this guy until he started showing this side of himself.

Massie is a principled and high character individual, just looking out for his constituency.

It is. Look I get it if he wants to vote against the one that lumped everything together... But this is a whole new level of WTF Massie.

Not taking up for Massie or criticizing him. Just looking beyond the sensational headline that he voted to defund ice and providing some more context....

In reading more about the bill - it's considered a "minibus" rather than a standalone bill (like BCreed posted). The vote was not to fund or defund ice as this thread title says. It was to fund DHS which included extending Cisa and providing Cisa to hire more staff. Cisa is the Cybersecuruty Information Sharing Act of 2015.

As i understand it, Cisa is what gave the government "authority" to censor tech companies like fb and Twitter around the 2020 election.

"The practice of CISA forwarding election-related concerns to social media companies (dubbed "switchboarding") is seen as a way to bypass constitutional restrictions on government censorship, as noted in a House Judiciary Committee report."

This bill did cut funding to CISA in some areas, but also extended it and provided money to hire more staff.

This is what Massie is pointing to for his no vote.

I thought this guy was one of the good guys. Now he is just grandstanding with nothing to show. Weak sauce. Kentucky, please do better.

Exactly. I don’t see ilhan Omar, Gavin newsome, AOC, or anyone else literally tweeting everyday about Trump. Massie does. He’s a cocksucker

Massive is just this cycle’s Adam Kinzinger or Liz Cheney.

He is not and has never really been a conservative.
