It is so predictable and corny. The “ice storm” is off the table for Birmingham but that’s not stopping the coverage! We’re talking to Alabama Power, we’re standing front of sand trucks, we’re making the weather guy tell us the same thing over and over. They are slowly pivoting to the “arctic blast”. Now we get the usual “check on elderly and pets”. “Protect your pipes”, blah blah. A single patch of ice will send a reporter live to show it to us and remind us that ice is slippery. If that’s not enough, you get it in the morning, noon, 5,6 and 10!

I see it as I’m going through the channels, yes. “Watch it”, no. I already know what they are going to say. See above.

There are enough posts about local female anchors to suggest that many people do, in fact, watch local news.

Local news can be soothing. Watching it now reminds me of watching it with my grandpa when I was a little kid. Has a timeless factor.

The last time I watched local news there was a story of some lady that had an old septic tank cave in on her property. She was wanting to know who was going to come fix her problem for her.

Local news is a fricking joke.

If we would have given all our money to Al Gore in the 90s this wouldn't be happening right now... And NYC wouldn't be under 20 feet of water!

So, now we are all gonna die in an ice storm!

The local news is entertainment for old people. Out of habit, I put it on channel 9 CBS (cable channel 7) between 6:30-6:45AM.. So its usually 15 to 30 mins local and it stay on while the morning show comes on until I change it to ESPN for background noise.

Sometimes they have some community group on to promote something, sometimes at the end they show videos that most people have seen on social media already.

We need local news especially when there is any type of natural disaster and information specific to the area is needed. If things go down sometimes calling into the news to relay information might be the fastest means to get information out there, but their day to day content and they shite they report...I remember my daddy saying this and I don't know how true it is, but he said on multiple times that if the news is reporting house fires its because there is nothing else to report.

If something somewhat major is going on you will not hear about any houses burning down, but the second the news slows down "there was a house fire at a house on the corner of Alabama st & FDR dr".

Agreed, this morning WBRZ in Baton Rouge did a report from the airport. Not even in play at this point.
