Prohibition on outdoor shooting of firearm on property without reasonable care; penalty. Permits localities to adopt an ordinance prohibiting outdoor shooting of a firearm unless the discharge of such firearm is conducted (i) on land of at least five acres and (ii) with reasonable care, described in the bill, to prevent a projectile from crossing the bounds of the land. The bill permits such an ordinance to create a rebuttable presumption that the discharge of firearms across or over the bounds of a property without written permission of that property owner was without reasonable care. The bill requires that a violation of such an ordinance not exceed a Class 1 misdemeanor.

The libs on Reddit are actually furious over all the gun laws.

They basically push guns more into the hands of the rich. New silencer tax would be $500 and then you’d need 5 acres of land to shoot.

Again these are all proposals. Nothing signed yet but I’m not holding out hope.

This will surely end what the left calls “gun violence” in Virginia

Considering who controls their legislature and who their governor is, I’m assuming all this stupidity ends up getting signed into law.

Say I'm on 3 acres. How can they prove I shot my gun?

I’m surprised they aren’t making you get a government permit to shoot on your own land. Better not give them any ideas

They elected a dude who openly admitted he wanted to kill the children of a political adversary. They deserve everything they have coming to them.

Shoot from inside your house at a target outside the residence. This law restricts shooting outdoors.

And have a good lawyer on retainer.

There are supposedly 10 million gun owners/hunters not registered to vote nationwide (500k+ in VA). Seems like somew focus should be on this group.

What if it’s 4.5 acres with a a multi hundred acre timber tract surrounding it? What if it’s 4.5 acres on the deed book but surrounded by 350 acres of cultivated fields that the residential owner also owns - similar to me. What if it’s on 4 acres but the shooting area is made completely safe by a berm?

Sounds like a crappy idea without some serious stipulations .

That is the current law if a county designates the area as prohibiting outside shooting, like Arlington or Richmond.

The new law just says that if you shoot into a neighbor's property then they don't have to prove that you were reckless.

Law does not apply to self defense.
