Long story short 2 older men stopped to help me change a flat on my truck the other day (yes I had it under control) and they wouldn’t accept cash but feel I need to repay them somehow.

What’s a smallish gift idea so I can show I appreciate them stopping.

Much better than the Doordash kid who pulled up in my driveway last month with a flat. Little sh*t stayed on the phone with his grandma the whole time instead of trying to learn how to change a flat.

When I was an E2 an elderly lady stuffed a crumbled mess of singles and coins in my hand after I changed her tire despite my protestations. All told I had about $4 and 2 coupons for a free biscuit at Burger King.

That’s a really thoughtful impulse — you clearly appreciate the help you got, and a small gift to show that is a great idea. Since they wouldn’t accept cash, something practical, personal, and not too big works really well. Here are some good options that feel sincere without being over the top:

?? Solid, Appreciative Gift Ideas

Food & Drink

A nice box of quality cookies, brownies, or pastries

A gourmet snack basket (nuts, jerky, cheeses)

A good bottle of coffee beans or ground coffee

A six-pack of craft beer (if you think they drink)

Tools / Handy Items

A good multi-tool (Leatherman-style)

A high-quality LED flashlight or headlamp

A gift card to a local coffee shop or hardware store — feels practical and still thoughtful

Seasonal / Weather-Friendly

A warm beanie or gloves (especially nice in winter)

A cooler bag with snacks if they like outdoor stuff

A thermos or travel mug for daily use

Get one for yourself made too so you know when to reach out on the one year flat tire anniversary and thank them again.

Real talk, if someone gave me an engraved gift for helping change a freaking tire I'd be weirded tf out. Give them a gift card to Shoney's and let that be the end of it.

Pick up some flashlights at Harbor Freight. I buy the pen sized ones just about every time I walk in there. Also buy a lot of their knock off Plano waterproof tackle trays

I’d get them a gift certificate to somewhere that you think they will actually go. For instance, a lot of old men eat breakfast somewhere like McDonald’s in order to hang out with friends.

If they stopped to help change a tire, they obviously are not afraid of dirty hands. Another idea would be to get them a gift card to Lowe’s / Home Depot / Ace Hardware.
