Odds the new Harry Potter series is good?

The very first thing we heard about this series is that Snape would be black
Since then, most of the stuff I’ve heard about it has been pretty positive. The other castings seem solid. JK Rowling is heavily involved and says the series format will allow for a more complete story with more book details included
And now it’s announced Hans Zimmer will be doing the score for the series
I had no interest in seeing these a year ago but now I think they might be ok. The movies did a great job of fitting 800 page books into a 2 hour movie but Rowling is right that a series is the best format for telling these stories.

I’m sure it will be mostly fine outside of Snape.
But can it capture the magic the films had? Doubtful.

I would love to know who made the call on the Snape casting. I mean just an all time fumble

The worst part about it is outside of like the Weasleys and Dumbledore his appearance is described the most in the books. He’s supposed to appear pale and greasy, and obviously that’s not possible if he’s black.
If they are worried about representation there are plenty of other characters they could’ve race-swapped without really getting too far from the books

They didn't have to race swap anyone at all. They could have introduced new characters.

Inventing characters for books that already have hundreds of characters that either weren’t in the movies or had very limited roles is silly.
Plenty of characters where their race doesn’t really matter.

Also his character arc is dependent on James Potter making fun of his appearance.
So now he’s going to bully the only black kid based on his appearance. Hmmmmm I wonder what the pretext will be there.

I’ve wondered about this and I think there’s a serious chance they also make Sirius or Lupin black as well for that reason

Not going to get my hopes up. The chemistry between Radcliffe, Watson and Grint from the films will be extremely difficult to top.

Then they are dumb because there was plenty of diversity in the books and movies. Dean Thomas, the Patils, Lee Jordan, Angelina Johnson, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Cho Chang, and Blaise Zabini all off the top of my head. Honestly Rowling was kinda ahead of her time with that considering she began writing the books 30+ years ago.
This remake pisses me off because it’s so unnecessary. The OG movies are great and cannot be replicated.

Yeah, but all of those characters were peripheral at best. The filmmakers of this series clearly wanted a major character race swapped for representation.

My little sister played the Harry Potter video game for a few days before stopping. First thing I noticed was that the Hogwarts school was all Pajeets, Muslims, and Blacks. There's a handful of white people in the game.
I imagine HBO will do something like that. Makes absolutely no sense, but the DEI will likely be strong.

Yeah, but that gets in the way of the internet outrage.
Aside from the Snape casting I think this will be really good.

The three kids doing the new series was selected to do the new Audible Full cast editions. I listened to the first 2 and they have been great together. I think they are only doing the first 3 books and then they are switching to an older group for the remainder because they are releasing them like one a month it seems.
If the three kids were reading lines together, that will help their chemistry.
