LSU men BBall 13-5( 1-4) 13 games left. Would 7 more wins get them to tournament?

I’ve been on Matt McMahon like most of the board but I’ve got to admit they have been playing hard. Their best wins are Mizzou and SMU( 13-5 and beat #22 UNC) With Dedan Thomas Jr. returning if we could get to 20 wins, would that get the Tigers into the tournament?

That and a strong sec tournament can get them in

So now the bar is 20+ wins to get in? I thought we were hoping for 18-19 wins.

these four SEC losses can be digested better by the committee if the Tigers start looking better with Dedan back in the fold

I have been encouraged by what I've seen from Rashad King as a facilitator as well

It would put them on the bubble.

Sigh. Here we are again talking (praying) about hypotheticals and “what ifs” about this guy finally making the tournament.

If we’re not comfortably in the tournament (I.e avoiding play ins) then he needs to be sent packing. Enough already.

I thought this was his “best roster ever” since getting to LSU. Start winning!

I would guess it would put us on the right side of the bubble. But the bubble nonetheless. I think it would help if some of those 7 hypothetical wins were against better teams.

With 7 wins, assuming my numbers are right, LSU would be 20-11 with at least 3 Q1 wins as currently ranked. Would that alone be enough? It at least partly depends on the other SEC teams and the perception of the SEC in basketball. I lean toward yes, but I would think they would have to win at least 1, probably 2, games in the SEC tournament to guarantee a berth with those credentials.

Conference tournaments are largely irrelevant in terms of building a resume aside from winning the tournament.

This would be the worst case scenario if this played out but we missed the tournament. McMahon should be gone in that scenario but the trained seals would furiously clap and scream “We were close and had injuries!”

Nightmare.

Yes I think 7 wins would do it & very possible as long as we don’t completely fall apart like SC game

They can (and have) tip the scales for bubble teams.

I doubt that other than the guys who will do that no matter what, like the guys who will dog a coach no matter what. I'm not sure simply making the tournament will help him at this point.

If LSU goes 8-10 in the sec they are 100000% in the ncaa tournament.

I think 7-11 gets you on the bubble and 8-10 has you firmly in

Nah. SEC is way worse this year than last. It would have to be the right combo of wins at 8-10.

What's the alternative? Being gay and negative and not wanting to make the tournament?

Pretty much everyone is in agreement that he needs to make the tournament or he's s gone. You can't start putting qualifiers on making the tournament.

It is. His best 2 players haven't played in the 5 of the 6 biggest games of the season.

If he doesn't make the tournament, he's gone. I don't understand why everyone feels the need to bitch and moan about it when we all know it to be the case. Just root for them at this point.

I’ll do some homework tomorrow, but I think 4 SEC teams made it last year at 8-10. Q1 wins probably matter a little more than the magic “20 wins” mark
