This will be interesting to follow.

quote:

Duke has filed a lawsuit against Blue Devils quarterback Darian Mensah, arguing Mensah broke his contract by trying to enter the transfer portal and that he must stay with the Blue Devils to finish the arbitration process.

The suit, filed in Durham Superior Court, comes a few days after Mensah announced his intention to enter the transfer portal just hours ahead of the NCAA's transfer portal entry deadline.

Heard from several Tulane folks that Mesah's agent is scum of the earth.

This will be the only way to control the chaos that is the transfer portal.

Would they plan on starting a guy at QB who they are suing?

That's not the point.

Some schools need to be the bad guys and start holding these players accountable for the deals they are signing to fix this whole thing.

The problem isnt the players. They legally cant sign pay for play contracts. Until that happens theres nothing to enforce other than maybe damages.

Suing a player to stay at a school he doesn’t wanna be at is just dumb, take the buyout money and move on, he left Tulane for a bigger bag from Duke, so karma

I understand that's how it was/is for NIL deals where the money was coming from 3rd parties.

But with the revenue sharing stuff and the schools paying players directly, then what else would it be besides a contract to play ball there?

I'm glad Duke is trying to hold him to his contract. If Mensah was hurt or played poorly and his value tanked, then Mensah's camp would absolutely be holding Duke's feet to the fire if Duke tried processing him or getting out of paying the 2nd year of the contract.

He did sign a 2 year deal. If Miami wants him maybe they should have to pay a buyout.

They can sign endorsement deals though, or why couldn't they?

Why wouldn't any payment include dates? Should it not be something like $x a week or $x a game and the bowls be a major portion?

At some point a contract has to matter and there has to be an actual penalty to the person breaking it. Sure, there’s a buyout for the school purchasing them. But by deciding to leave a school after you’ve signed a contract, that school has now lost out on time and other players they could have been recruiting instead.

These are still NIL deals. They are just directly with the school.

As hilarious as it is, these contracts still have language in them explicitly stating that these revshare contracts are NOT pay for play and that the athlete is NOT an employee of the school.
