1990- Derrick Coleman
1991- Larry Johnson
1992- Shaquille O'Neal
1993- Chris Weber
1994- Glenn Robinson
1995- Joe Smith
1996- Allen Iverson
1997- Tim Duncan
1998- Michael Olowokandi
1999- Elton Brand

Really, only 1 bust in Olowokandi. Smith, Robinson, Coleman, Johnson, & Brand all had solid careers.

That's not a bad decade of #1s, for sure. People think #1s are supposed to become HOFers automatically, but it don't work that way.

Most everyone played 3 or more years of college before 1998, so it was a lot easier to evaluate.

In current times the NBA scouts are still projecting what they think an 18 -19 year old kid will become in the future.

1990's to 2005 was the peak time for high school kids to enter the NBA, the NBA stopped it in 2005

80s had a slight edge with only one non all star participant and 5 HOF'ers.

Joe Carroll
Mark Aguirre
Worthy (HOF)
Sampson (HOF)
Hakeem (HOF)
Ewing (HOF)

Daugherty
Robinson (HOF)
Danny Manning
Pervis Ellison (only non all star, but won Most Improved)

Not even close

the current decade is already better

Anthony Edwards
Cade Cunningham
Paolo Banchero
Wemby
Zaccharie Risacher
Cooper Flagg

5 of the 6 are already on hall of fame career paths
Risacher might not make an all-star team, but he's going to have a long career.

80's
Joe Barry Carroll - All-star 10+ yr career averaging 18ppg
Mark Aguirre - 3x all star, 2x champion 10+ yr career averaging 20ppg
James Worthy - Hall of Fame
Ralph Sampson - Hall of Fame
Hakeem Olajuwon - Hall of Fame
Patrick Ewing - Hall of Fame
Brad Daugherty - 5x all-star averaging 19ppg, only played 8 years and retired due to back issues
David Robinson - Hall of Fame
Danning Manning - 2x all star, 15 year career averaging 14ppg
Pervis Ellison - 11 yr career, MIP in 1992 averaging 20ppg. 9.5ppg for his career

Nervous Pervis was the worst player in that decade and he was never the same after 4 years in the league dealing with knee issues, but was all-star caliber player before his injuries.

That's a bold take considering three of those guys haven't even played 150 games.

which decade had the best 2nd overall picks?

90s were pretty damn solid there as well:

90 - Gary Payton [Hall of Fame, 9x All-Star, 9x All-NBA, DPOY]
91 - Kenny Anderson [1x All-star]
92 - Alonzo Mourning [Hall of Fame, 7x All-Star, 2x All-NBA, 2x DPOY]
93 - Shawn Bradley [Monstar]
94 - Jason Kidd [Hall of Fame, 10x All-Star, 6x All-NBA]
95 - Antonio McDyess [1x All-Star, 1x All-NBA]
96 - Marcus Camby [DPOY]
97 - Keith Van Horn
98 - Mike Bibby
99 - Steve Francis [3x All-Star]

2000s were Stromile Swift, Tyson Chandler, Jay Williams, Darko Milicic, Emeka Okafor, Marvin Williams, LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Durant, Michael Beasley, Hasheem Thabeet

2 great players, 2 good players, and a whole lot of busts.

the 2010s had: Evan Turner, Derrick Williams, MKG, Victor Oladipo, Jabari Parker, D'Angelo Russell, Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Marvin Bagley III, Ja Morant

and the 80s had: Darrell Griffith, Isiah Thomas, Terry Cummings, Steve Stipanovich, Sam Bowie, Wayman Tisdale, Len Bias, Armen Gilliam, Rik Smits, Danny Ferry
I think they are safely out of the running for best decade.

Players stayed three or four years in college. Plus, very little Europeans.

Easier to identify top end talent.

Also, some of these players went to horrible teams, in which even if they were just above average they could score 20ppg.

I really don't think people understand the 90's had the the most high school players in it, that after 2005 they couldn't declare anymore.

and that's just Number 1 overall picks? I would like to see now many first rounders of that decade are HOF players.

Spud and Mugsy were from Europe?

Most of the European players I remember from that time frame were on the taller side.
