It's interesting to watch colleges and univs merging or closing down completely.

It's obviously small universities at this point. Sad if they're closing altogether, interesting and kind of neat if they're merging with other universities.
This is happening mostly in the north and Midwest and west.
The saddest in the south IMO was Birmingham Southern closing altogether, classified as a financial necessity, but the lack of enrollment was caused by being in an absolute terrible crime-ridden part of town.
One interesting one, Martin (TN) Methodist, a private university, merged or is merging with public UT-Martin
ETA: nope, I was wrong about that. It's Martin Methodist but merging with some UT system in Pulaski TN, not UT Martin
Arkansas, weeks ago, played "Queens University of Charlotte NC" and I was thinking "who? Where did they come from?" Well, Queens and Elon are merging and it will be final this coming summer.
Some little public college around Statesboro is merging with Georgia Southern.
Up north, the most interesting is the merger of three universities. Clarion (where John Calipari played basketball) is merging with Cal-PA and Edinboro. So their current public relations pic is this...
They will be renamed "Pennsylvania Western" and will have an enrollment of more than 10K
Some tiny little thing called "Pine Manor College" in Boston is merging with Boston College.
pretty cool link here on it

Long story short: There's too many of them.
The end.
The end.

Louisiana could take a page out of this book. We have entirely too many public universities.
Tech
Grambling
NWST
ULM
LSUA
McNeese
ULL
SELA
LSU
Nicholls
Southern
UNO
SU-NO
And I’m probably missing some. Throw in LSUS and LSUE etc if you want. There is no reason for a state of our population to have two separate public university systems with so many four year schools. It’s a complete money pit.

I think ULM (Monroe) is in trouble financially
Henderson State in Arkansas had some financial "concerns" and got taken over administratively by Arkansas State University... something like that. They're still "Henderson State University" but they had several academic majors dissolved.
I don't know why Birmingham Southern didn't merge with Samford or UAB - they just closed

Georgia did this several years ago

Big debt that the other two did not want to absorb.

Louisiana mergers would be interesting
New Orleans area mergers would be super interesting

We have far too many universities. The less the better

Shitty politics will never allow it and it’s all so baked in now that it’s impossible. For example Tech and ULM plus Grambling should have combined long ago. That area of Louisiana doesn’t need three four year schools. It’s just a drain and redundant.
But at some point someone decided that all areas of Louisiana needed a large state school within a 45 minute drive.

In Mississippi, it would be best best to drop a CC or two, at least one HBCU, the MUW, and Delta State.

didn't UGA absorb the medical school in Augusta?
Texas A&M absorb the Texas Wesleyan University Law School in Ft Worth. I never knew Aggie didn't have a law school until then.

Mississippi College closed down? Or just their football program?

Tech and Grambling could certainly merge, hell you can jog from one to the other, but then some people would lose their minds if it started rolling.

Jindal tried this, but it was racist.

No doubt about this, especially with the professional job market shrinking.
But I’m pulling for a couple to survive in my region, playing favorites.

Yeah I remember this. They came for him hard.

Combine them and call the new one the University of Louisiana.
