Anyone remember when they brought actual MLB players for each position on the field? Not just the college players that it seems today.

I remember going and they had the dinner the night before where you could meet the players beforehand at a place off Airline. I have a few baseballs signed by players from that event along with from the clinic itself. I also remember Kelly Gruber (3B Blue Jays) teaching 3B drills and telling kids they should move to OF.

Remember playing in the Babe Ruth regionals in 84 in Denham Springs. I was playing on the South Texas Flax squad and Coach Bertram gave the opening banquet speech. Good Times.

I remember when Billy Martin was invited one year and taught me how to cuss as a kid.

I didn’t go to the Bertman clinics but I remember for a period in the early 90’s there were day long clinics at LSU at Alex Box. They had former and (then) current players. Not any superstars but some solid players. LSU players too. Met a couple of old timers that had played for the Brooklyn Dodgers there. Will Clark showed up one year and was a douche. Skip Bertman was always there. Peter Gammons gave the opening speech one year.

Once mlb players figured they could charge for autographs and make $ it was a lot harder to get those guys to commit without some sort of fee

Had Kim Batiste sign my glove back in 1996 or so. No idea where that glove is.

Coach Bertman's Summer baseball camp was much different than the annual BTR Kid's Baseball Clinic. That was usually a one-day event at Alex Box that was sponsored by local business men and a lot of current and former major leaguers would show up for the one-day event. I went to most of them and had a blast. I remember once in the late 70's or early 80's when Tommy Lasorda came in and was the headliner at the clinic and the banquet the night before.

I used to get pitching lessons from Jody Autrey. Would walk over from the tailgate on football Saturday mornings since we drove in from Houston.

There's a good chance I watched you play. I remember my parents taking me to that event.

Skip showed up in 1984 so it I'm guessing it wasn't late 70's

Funny. I met him back then and he was a complete dick. Two years ago, my buddy had a party and he was there and I was thinking “frick that guy.” Ended up in a small group chatting and he came over and it ended up just me and him. Dude couldn’t have been nicer. Super cool guy and I kind of ended up feeling guilty for hating on the dude for so long. I guess we all change.
