Do you believe this?

I took a test, so yes I am. But I’m just over that. Not in the genius category

The question is why all the 130+ IQs weren't in gifted.
Posted on 1/12/26 at 10:57 am to drizztiger
No. I believe folks mistake "online" and other less robust forms of intelligence testing as real IQ tests.

130 is smart but not gifted. I think 145+ gets into the highly gifted range.

I don’t know if you know this but……
Most people lie on anonymous chat forums….
It took IQ to raise your suspicions? Not the fact that we are all (except Mingo) 6’+ and under 220 pounds?

I scored an “above average” on my Iowa testing in 7th grade, so yeah, I’m kind of a genius.

Statistically it’s highly unlikely. The average IQ is around 100.

Only about 2% of the population is 130 and above
Which is why it would be silly to think that even 10% of the people here would be in that range

Yes, I believe that if you add up everyone here, the IQ is 130+.
But not by much....

This right here. If you aren't in what looks like an interrogation room, sitting at an industrial table in a government spec folding metal chair with a Phd across from you asking you questions and having you perform weird tasks, you aren't taking a real IQ test. There were written portions, lots of showing me pictures and then asking me questions about them, I also remember where they would show me a shape and then have me reproduce that shape from a selection of odd shapes on the table. Weird shite like that.
I had a couple done as a youngster as part of some university study and it was a memorable event. I now wonder what kind of information is in a file somewhere in some government warehouse about my proclivities.
Apparently I did pretty well, I qualified for a special program where they bussed us across town a couple of days a week to attend special classes. Or maybe it was Special Ed. Hell, I don't know. The bus was short.

It is probably a pretty thin band of people dumb enough to post their tepid IQ, but smart enough to post at all.

No idea what my IQ is because we don't regularly test for that anymore.
Normally I don't think I'm smarter than most people. I'm certainly not more creative than a lot of my friends and peers.
But when I have to engage or speak with them......I realize that maybe I'm not a complete idiot. I did okay in life and most of that was through hard work and consistent, careful, smart decisions. And I tend to surround myself with people with similar experiences and mindsets.
I think my social EQ has historically been pretty low, but that's changing as I age.

I’m not saying they are. But a lot will be between 110 and 130 with some over. Message boards like this have more college graduates than not.

Gifted is an designation for education and I don't think any state comes close to 145. The IQ cutoff is typically 120-130.
In LA the IQ cutoff is 130. Children who show potential get sent for testing (including an IQ test) and if they're admitted, get a specialized curriculum, IEP, etc. For us, through elementary school you'd get taken 1-2 days a week to your gifted class, only with other gifted kids. In middle onward there were Gifted classes.

That's nice. I'm crazy intelligent and don't sit on poli all day.
