Ruger .243
Tripod along the creek. This area was obviously flooded. Was happy the stand didn’t float away.

Area 6
38° calm
35 whelen
In my saddle in the same spot I hunted yesterday evening. Got in early, slipped in quietly with the red light, then of course some ole boy came stomping in with his bright arse white light. You’d think with a light that bright, people could manage to avoid stepping on every stick laying on the ground. He also must have figured 100 yards from another hunter is adequate distance with rifles, because that’s about how far he decided to set up from me. Gotta love public land lol
ETA: my new hunting buddy is duck hunting. Gonna be a short hunt for me this morning. I would get down right now and head back toward the trail where I passed a couple fresh scrapes on the way in, but I’m worried someone came in after me and is set up in that area. No sense in messing someone else up because my hunt got messed up.

Small private piece where after further review, yesterday AM wasnt the target 8. It was a new buck.
Bow only here due to proximity of houses
Running out of time before traveling for work gets in the way

Hadn’t seen much then two does come out but behind some brush. I was about to leave. I’ll stick it out another 30 minutes or so.

Same. Two small does here. Moved very late. Wind started really howling so I’m less than optimistic

Late post. Caddo Parish cold this morning but the sun is warning things up.
12 gauge Marlin Goose gun #4 buckshot.
Beagles jumped 2 right off the bat and a guy killed 1 doe. Been slow ever since.
Some other friends just found about 4 pound lions mane mushroom they brought to me. So it’s been a good day.
Last hunt of the year for me. REB jr will be hunting primitive next weekend.

Did you shine him with a light as he was setting up? Asking bc as someone who hunts public land I’m always weary of walking in on someone who beat me to area. And if I go to set up and saw a light flashing me I would def move a ways. Curious if he knew you were there or not.

Saw 3 deer this morning. Had a bobcat come out at 5 yards. He saw me and stared. He moved quickly before I could even get my gun up. Spike came in at 15 yards. He’s lucky he was small.
Reb just got done picking up all my cameras, climbers, sticks, etc. Making one more hunt this afternoon and grabbing the last camera.

It does not always matter. One time on public a dude walked up to the tree I was in about an hour after daylight. Told me he lost his flagging and then proceeded to sit in some bushes 50 yds away. ??
I get it’s public…. But c’mon

Back in the box. Later than I’d planned as I spent a lot of time jumping out to move deadfall blocking the road. Judging from the standing water in so many places and all the downed trees and limbs, this place got rocked by that last storm. Wind has died some, horns only this evening, brown, it’s down tomorrow.

I will flash the shite out of someone else because I'm basically always in there first, and if they are still close enough I will talk to them about how close they are and suggest they move farther away. They don't have to, but I don't understand how they would not want to. Some people suck at judging distance, and a light carries really far in dark woods, even sometimes thick ones. I've been thrown off by seeing the light on the farmhouse a mile away before, it just happens to pop through when I'm on a certain hill on my way to a spot.

North wind gusting to 10mph
Box stand on a plot with my 6.5 killmore
Tried to get to another spot but almost went over the yellow line on my lacrosses, water snake coming out of a some brush waist high made for an interesting few seconds.
