Took my grandson to see the David movie

And I have to say I was very impressed with the quality of this film. This is not one of those second rate attempts at a faith film that we often see. The animation, storytelling, flow, and faithfulness to the Biblical narrative is all very top notch.
David is one of the most fascinating characters from ancient times. And this movie really does it justice.
Also, it’s rated PG, so it’s able to portray the serious and gritty elements of his story, but in a family friendly way.
A great movie for all ages to enjoy and be inspired by. Highly recommended!

I plan to watch it. My mom took daughter to see it, and they both raved at how good it is.

It didn’t get to that later part of his life. If enough people go see it maybe we will get a sequel?

Saw it with my son. Reminded me of Prince of Egypt back when I was a kid. David was surprisingly good. Good songs, story was well done

We saw it with our grandchild and I agree it reminded me of Prince of Egypt. We really enjoyed it and would recommend it.

It was fine. Thought the music left a lot to be desired. The lyrics were pretty awful.
Thought the animation was pretty good and once you got passed the ridiculous lion fighting in the beginning, it got better. And, yes, that is biblically accurate but there is literally no background for David being able to fight off, whether by divine intervention or sheer might, a full grown male lion at what appears to be the age of 12(?), whether lions actually existed in the near east or not.
The end was also abrupt and felt unearned. The relationship between David and Jonathan felt unexplored, largely reduced to a montage.
All in all, I thought the middle was good, the beginning and end felt either rushed or unearned, and the result was the movie was simply ok, particularly since the music was really not very good in my opinion.

Yeah we didn’t get that scene
They only had two hours to give us the main highlights from the first half of his life.
If you want a more comprehensive telling there’s enough material for a five season series that could be fascinating.

There was only two hours available for so many available plot lines. They really packed a lot in with what they had to work with.

Pretty much how I felt as well. Plus the over the top Philistine leader was very out of place.

The best part? Disney had nothing to do with it.

I don’t know. Yeah. Maybe. Felt like they wanted a caricature to laugh at in that almost Disney way. There’s always some buffoon to lighten it up and it may as well be the leader of the Philistines since it couldn’t be Goliath, though I did laugh at him slightly resembling Hades from Hercules. He even turns red when angry.
Kids liked it so there’s that.

Back then they did.
I’ll probably see this, but I have a similar thought as with the upcoming Odyssey movie…everyone already knows the story. I’d like a lesser known story that hasn’t already been done.

I’ve read that they’ve found big cat bones they think are asiatic lions that have since gone extinct in the area, though it sounds like there is still a bit of skepticism about it. Regardless, there were big cats of some kind there.
Not arguing that point.

I’d wager most people know way less about David than there is to know. Especially kids. This movie could easily be fleshed out into a series.
David’s story is fascinating and a deep study into the heart, soul and character of mankind.

Agreed. And doesn’t need to feel preachy at all.
