Fine with players getting paid, but

If they are making 6 figures or more per year then they should have to pay their own tuition and living expenses. It is crazy for them to get the amount they are getting and still get all the perks they get. It’s a sad world when you have a bunch of regular students that have a 4.0 and over 30 on ACT and many of them don’t even get but about half of their school paid for to include TOPS money. See it every year. Then we give athletes 6 and 7 figure salaries and everything is free for them. Then we wonder why some athletes think they are above the law and we are perplexed when they do stupid stuff and then don’t want to take responsibility.

Are the nerds generating millions of dollars for the university?
And i doubt most kids with the educational honors you suggested are paying for over half their schooling. You just said it to make your argument sound better. I didnt have those numbers and I didnt pay a dime for college.

It’s how the world works. Athletes bring in hundreds of millions of dollars per year, those regular students don’t. That’s like saying the Calculus professor is way smarter than Lane Kiffin but Kiffin makes way more money so Lane Kiffin shouldn’t get any of benefits in his contract.

Rich guys are way more entertained by watching an athlete win games than a smart kid taking a math test or presenting his term project.

NIL has ruined college football. No 18 year old kid should be making a million or more. Ridiculous!!

It’s capitalism. People spend money on what they choose to care about. Most care a lot more about football than they do about the academics. Can’t make people choose to care about the right stuff just because it should matter more.
The government stopped pretending they care about LSU being an institution with any sort of academic rigor a long time ago, anyway. Admissions standards are a fvcking joke now, and the people in this state won’t take steps to change that because higher education is for liberals anyway.

I'm 1000% against athletes getting paid anything beyond a scholarship but since we're there, go the other route - no degree. Just stop the farce of 'student athlete' for these players. Like one of our coaches used to say way before NIL - "what do you think you're here for? school?" So just drop the act for scholarship athletes and still let real students try to walk on. If a walk on earns a scholly, fine, but if they take an NIL deal, it gets revoked.

I don't need internet credibility from the morons that post here. You can believe it or not, but I was cut a check each semester for the overages. Tops paid 100% of my tuition and I had others that covered the rest.

I’m pretty sure many of those “nerds” are part of the TAF. Many others like doctors, lawyers , businessmen and others donate money to the university and NIL.
Without those nerds, those buildings, facilities, etc., for the institution and the athletics department do not exist.
So, yes. Yes they do.

It doesn't shock me that you don't know how universities work. Students/professors doing important work can bring in thousands if not millions in grants and donations.

Is TOPS still around? Didnt it bankrupt the state? All the TOPS scholarships - graduates moved away.
