Interesting way to go about it.

Panther Portal Understanding
1. When I follow you, there's a 4 hour window to follow back or we're done.
2. Send your phone number, transcripts and Hilite in the first message!
3. Make sure you address my staff as "Coach" and not "Bro" or by First/Last Name!
4. Don't ask me for NIL (which we do have) when PFF has you taking less than 150 snaps on the year on offense/defense or didn't play at all. You should've gotten your money from the FBS, now it's time to play!!
5. Pray, talk to your family, gf, dog, and any other people before we offer you, not after you take 80 visits! I'm going to want to know ASAP!!
School starts for us January 12th. We don't have a lot of time to waste.
When you talk to us remember we achieved all of the following in our very first year:
* 2025 SWAC Champions
* 2025 SWAC Western Division Champions
* Winners of ALL Rivalry Games in 2025
* Back-to-back 3.0+ Team GPA
* 2025 Celebration Bowl
Come to the Hill! Go Panthers!

Dude doesn't have $20-$30 Million in annual NIL dollars at his disposal to go out and buy and retain his roster, so he's got to try something. He needs dudes who will be fully dedicated and serious for his program for at least one year, hopefully two, before some booster convinces them to bounce elsewhere.

I can get on board with the thinking but the follow back within 4 hours and using PFF as any decent measure of anything shows this guy is a clown.

The man has principles and the balls to follow through on them. Commendable.

National DII Coach of the Year in 2024 and that team's GPA also greatly improved during his tenure. Then took a prior 5-7 Prairie View A&M program to 10-4 in his first season at the FCS level.
This strategy of his may or may not work, but he's far from a clown.

I don’t have a problem with any of those given the context. He knows what time it is when guys are looking at PVAM. They need a shot to revive their career. If you need a job, better be professional, prepared, and ready to go.

That's a great wish list. If we're being honest, PV A&M isn't competing the same way an FBS school is though. Let's see if he can continue the success.

Main character syndrome.

If it works, and you find a niche way to get portal players to keep your team competitive, why not.
It's a shite show in NCAA , do something to stand out

That's what I'm thinking, and this appears geared towards dudes who were recruited by FBS programs now having to consider taking a demotion to a SWAC program in order to get playing time and hopefully rebound big time if they're still thinking they have a shot at going pro.
This coach is basically saying he wants hungry AF, dedicated FBS athletes as the ones he takes onto his team. Not someone who still feels entitled, which they shouldn't if they've been riding the pine enough to consider transferring to a SWAC program.

This is equivalent of the local fried chicken restaurant that has the following messages hand-written and taped on the drive through window:
No bills over $20
NO CHECKS
1 order per car
Cannot change order after placed
Extra Condements - .25 cents each
Turn down music at window

He referenced PFF using snap counts, not grading. So basically, he wants players with tape and experience. Thats valid and something not even PFF can frick up too bad.
In this day and age, i think its a great concept. You want people who WANT to be their as they can't compete to buy players. I actually use this concept when hiring. I'm not going to beg you to work for me. I want people who want to be here after i told them everything they need to know.

It's a lot, zero chance his methods would work at the FBS level. But for his background, he took Valdosta State to the D2 national championship, and in 1 season he increased PV win total from 5 to 10, along with winning the conference championship.
He clearly knows what he's doing, and it is working out great for him so far.

Damn coach, at least give them 8 hours.
Other than that, good luck.

The 4 hour window is hilarious - I think it's about testing potential player's disciplinary habits if he's following them at 10 PM, if they have a curfew and don't respond. Then he'll know which players are willing to break curfew and who takes it serious. This one sounds like a trap but I like it.
