Can someone explain LSU Baseball early season non-conference scheduling to me?

When I was at LSU in the mid to late 90s, the Tiger Baseball team went on early season road trips to Long Beach State and Arizona State. I get why we don’t do that anymore (concession sales), but I think we also hosted Cal State Fullerton one year.
I also understand you want to get northern teams down here in February and early March. But it seems like in recent years we have been scheduling schools I did not even know were schools/never heard of.
To be clear, I’m totally cool with the weekend in Jacksonville. I’m even cool with the Dartmouth and Northeastern weekend. But Milwaukee? Did you even know there was a Univ of Milwaukee? Why not just play the Univ of Wisconsin? And Sacramento State? Come on, seriously?
Does anyone know the thought process behind this?

Yeah. They don't want to take any early Ls and want reps.

1. Money by playing home games
2. Only part of pre-conference is to get reps and figure out the roster for conference play.
3. History shows that no real advantage is given to playing a hard non-conference when the SEC is a 10 week gauntlet.

Baseball teams greatly improve from early Feb to May.
I am not worried about the early season schedule. It is all about reps and getting work in.

I wouldn’t mind us doing a weekend series with an ACC school early in the year. We usually face a Big12 in the Texas classics.

1)Yes the main reason is money,
2) You can get reps playing average teams.
3) Does history indicate that there is a disadvantage in playing a harder ooc schedule?
I understand that you can’t get top shelf programs to come to the Box and not do a return trip, and we need the gate receipts to make money, but it would be nice for the fans to see some better competition than we’ve been seeing. I hope Johnson can figure out a way to do that.

There are times to criticize the schedule. This isn’t one of them. This is the best non conference we’ve had in years. Just because you don’t know the teams doesn’t mean they’re not good programs. It just means you don’t know shite.

Sac State had 5 players in the big leagues last year.

Northeastern and Milwaukee had guys featuring very prominently in the MLB playoffs

Resume building through number of wins. Unfortunately, all sports are doing it now.
Kim begins SEC play this week and I’m real curious to see how the Lady Tigers do against real competition.

Easy. Stack wins and get young players playing time before shutting them down for SEC play

The season doesn't matter until SEC play starts.
The pre-conference schedule is basically spring training with the staff getting a chance to see a lot of different players and lineup combos.

I don't think there is ever a reason to criticize the OOC schedule unless you think it really matters to get the #1 overall seed.

Come on, seriously?
That guy is a loser who has never won anything!!

It’s kind of hard to argue with the way Jay handles non conf to get ready for sec and postseason
It seems to have worked and they are gonna lose a non conf game no one sees coming
Maybe the football team should stop making the first game so difficult

Biggest reason. LSU needs lots of home games to pay the bills. It’s better when those home games don’t require a return trip, even if it is a 3 or 4 for 1.

I think it’s very fair for locals going to games to criticize it some years when it’s all garbage teams.

You ever thought that maybe hardly no power 4 team wants to travel to Alex Box early in the year to chance losing an early series or getting swept? I have a feeling this is the problem just as much as LSU/Jay just scheduling cupcakes
