Paying Blake Baker likes he’s Brent Venables

Is so fricking stupid. Yes yes one of us. He’s not close to that level and won’t be next year. $3M a year is insane. Should for an actual proven name at that price.

It’s just one year. He’s gone after next year.

I’ve been on the baker bring overrated train since vandy.
With that said Lane clearly had an open checkbook and has to scheme against all of these guys and he chose baker so

Assuming you're correct, why keep him for one year? Why not start new with someone better?
I know a lot of you sing Baker's praises, but I don't see it. From being unable to slow down, let alone contain/stop a mobile QB, to unforgivable failures at critical times, I don't get why Baker is so highly regarded.
Is he better than who we had in '23? Yes, but that's like saying Baker won a race against a wheelchair bound quadriplegic.

Going into this game, LSU had the #14 scoring defense in the country despite playing the 7th toughest schedule in the country. SP+, which adjusts for opponents, has LSU with the #10 defense in the country.
I find it pretty wild how everyone’s turning on him based on a bowl game missing 5-6 starters against a ranked power 4 team.
I don’t know if he’s worth what LSU is paying him next year, but frick.. who is? What has Lane done to prove he’s worth $13 million a year? At this point it’s basically Monopoly money until someone can show an actual tangible negative impact to these salaries. Until then there’s not much point worrying about it as long as we have a solid staff. Like.. if Baker were being paid $1.5 million next year would everyone suddenly feel differently?
I happen to think Blake Baker’s defense meshes perfectly with Lane’s offensive philosophy. Lanes tempo puts a ton of pressure on the defense, so it makes sense to be aggressive and try to get off the field rather than forcing long, sustained drives.

His whole defense opted out... Jesus yall are next level dumb

6 starters out. Give it a rest.

He is a proven name dipshit he produced a top 20 defense in the country with a severe lack of talent at linebacker and d line.

At full strength this year our defense was pretty damn good. Think back to the first 5 or so games and how much we'd attack bc we could cover the back end so well. Back when Whit and Perk were both healthy. We just didnt have depth at LB and our offense couldnt sustain drives and put points on the board this year.

It's asking the near impossible to limit a very capable offensive team like Houston, played at home with NO PLAYERS OPTING OUT, and likely the nation's top tight end.
Meanwhile, LSU has its top safety, its top cornerback (and one of the nation's best) and two experienced capable linebackers not available.

We would have held Houston to 20 maximum if Haulcy, delane, Perk, Weeks, even Pyburn play that game etc
Haulcy and Delane were that fricking good especially at end of year
