The newly laid carpet in the historic Saenger Theatre looks a little wonky, many residents and the councilman for the ward agree.

The city awarded low-bidder Continental Flooring Co., headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, a contract in August to supply and install the carpet squares for $73,100. Two South Mississippi companies submitted higher bids for the work, the records show.

The carpet squares are patterned but appear randomly laid rather than placed so the pattern looks uniform.

Now the taxpayers get to pay for it be removed, the surface cleaned, and the proper carpet to be installed. 2X+ the original high bid.

Procurement personnel rival HR for ineptitude.

That looks awful.

I remember field trips to the Saenger Theater when I was a kid... can't remember what all we went to see.

Why did TPTB choose that carpet, anyway? Unless people go there to look at the carpet?
I've been to most of the 'name' theaters in London and New York City and I do not remember ever looking down to appreciate the art of the carpet.

Leave it there. It makes for a story for the future. Don't throw more taxpayers money after that they have already foolishly spent.

It’d be pretty if it was put together properly.

I always thought it wax "Popp's".

Ran there a good bit, loved a cute little nurse from around there once.

I think you’re right… I’m decades removed and states away, lol.

I miss the coast- or at least my childlike memory of it.

Why do the taxpayers have to pay for it?

Leave it and make it a tourist attraction with some watchable old movie on Saturday morning.
What year was the theater opened? Feature films from that year one year, for starters.

A lot of high traffic venues choose elaborate, varied carpet designs since you can't see trash etc on the floor as well vs pure black

The tile work in a random gas station bathroom looks more professional.

I seriously doubt the contract language said anything to the effect of "carpet must be laid so that the overall pattern is visible"

Company did what they were told to do. They ain't gonna fix it for free.

Obviously you don’t pay for it. Period.
