Tolls have been suspended for a couple of months due to the fiasco associated with hidden fees and overcharging. Jeff obviously viewed it as an opportunity to be the hero, egged on by Fat Billy. Several westbank legislators including Pat Connick have been pushing for eliminating the tolls.

Meanwhile, the company that fronted all of the money to build the bridge is getting shafted. Yeah, their toll system was unreliable and a ripoff, but they made a deal. Are there any negotiations underway? Is it realistic to think that the state could find the money to pay off the bridge and eliminate the tolls, when it can't find the money to fix any other bridges in the state? Meanwhile I've been bopping back and forth over the bridge with no toll tag. What a clusterfrick.

Why do you give a shite that an Australian company (Plenary) that has been fraudulently overcharging and attaching hidden fees is getting (in your words) “shafted.”?

Edit: And Kapsch TrafficCom who collects the tolls is an Austrian company.

And people are always suggesting ‘Louisiana should just build a loop and make it a toll road’… as if anyone company would want to take on that burden in the way the state handles things. What a joke

I think, Louisiana should have more toll roads, but not in this way.

The financing scheme for this bridge involved a mix of state dollars, federal grants, and the remainder the of the money coming from the tolling backed bonds for the next few decades. I guess locals figured out the tolling revenue math agreement was going to end up paying for the bridge 2 or three times over, that led to the outrage coupled with the tolling company tacking on Credit Card fees while not charging credit card fees for the Leeville bridge.

I still don’t understand why The Causeway Commission tag and GeauxPass have not merged into one system. I know you can use the same toll transponder, but you need two separate accounts.

Also, GeauxPass should be interoperable with all Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, and Georgia toll systems. One tag one account for all roads. That way other state visitors use their their tag in Louisiana and don’t end up with a bill if they already have a tag.

reading the article what a clusterfrick

The parish wants no tolls and refunds for all the tolls already collected
quote:

seeking an injunction on bridge tolls and the return of all tolls and fees collected from May to October of this year.

The company was allowed to charge tolls and fees by the state, and it doesn't look like a good deal for the residents.
quote:

has been charging Belle Chasse Bridge motorists with exorbitant tolls and fees, like a $25 administrative fee that applied to roughly 86% of transactions this year.
It also says that the state illegally delegated its powers to a private entity, denied motorists an appeal process, and failed to intervene sooner on the toll system.

The state wants a better deal, but I don't know why the company would do that. They have already gone three months without revenue and are still getting fined $5,000 a day by the state.

quote:

Gov. Jeff Landry suspended the tolls in October to renegotiate the 30-year bridge contract. Plenary spokesperson Angi Noote said that a final agreement has not yet been reached.

quote:

As of October, Plenary was still being fined $5,000 per day for failing to finish a nearby roadwork project.
The tolling system states Plaquemines Parish residents with a GeauxPass account should pay 25 cents each time they cross the bridge, and drivers without a GeauxPass account would pay $2.26.

What happens if the judge sides with the Parish and against the state?

How much will the state end up owing this company? How will that affect DOTD projects throughout the state?

The bridge was needed, but not at the expense of an arse raping of the citizens of the State. Wonder which legislators got hefty contributions to their campaign chests to sell out their constituents.

What should happen if allowed to remain controlled by Plenary. Just need more dynamite.

The shitshow with this bridge is way deeper than the tolls

Bad deals, corrupt councilman, a TERRIBLE paint job (who the frick paints a bridge orange and yellow???), shoddy construction, etc…..

Quite literally everything about this operation has been terrible from the start
