Love Reading TD dads putting toys together

Every year I love reading the story’s of Dads putting together toys for the morning after drinking to much. I don’t have kids but this gives me holiday joy and makes me want to be one of those guys. Merry Christmas and happy bourbon to all those putting together toys tonight

As frustrating as those Christmas Eves and early Christmas mornings could be—instructions were terrible and there were always pieces missing. Took the Lord’s name in vain more times on that day than any other some years, the very day I should have taken care not to. So frustrating.
I’ll tell you one thing, though, I’d give just about anything to be doing exactly that right now. Enjoy it, Dads, doing it right now. You only get so many of these. And you may get less than you thought you would. Pretend like this is your last.
Cheers to all the dads right now whose kids aren’t sleeping under their roofs tonight, for whatever reason. And cheers to those whose are.

I thought I was past the stage of putting things together on Christmas Eve. My wife determined that was a lie…and told me today at about 3:00.

Pay a handy man to put the toys together. Takes the stress out of Christmas Eve.

Been building a homemade Gaga Ball pit for my oldest daughters the last few days. Today I got my 8 year old girl out there to help me construct & paint it. Was a lot of fun working together!

Just finished a kids horse stable, vet clinic, bicycle, and motorized hot wheels track
Might be the last year of assembly for us

This is the OT. They just pay illegal Mexicans to do it.

Just finished and poured 3 fingers neat. Now I’m going to sit here with everyone asleep, the fire screen saver on the Roku and the Christmas tree the only thing lit in the house. Then I’ll head off to bed. I have one a freshman in college and one who is 6. I’m hoping to get another 3 years of these nights, but know they’re not guaranteed.

Beautiful post.
Yeah from the time they’re old enough to process it to being too old to be as fascinated by it, goes by too quick.

I miss those days. My youngest is 13 now and wife and I will be awake waiting for them to wake up but will let them sleep. Happy where we are but smile big thinking about waking up at the crack of dawn to children out of their minds exited about what Santa brought them on Christmas morning. Enjoy every last second of it.

Your Dad never did that!

In 1989 Christmas Eve, I was called out for a Ship docking at Exxon in Baton Rouge. I was to be there at noon and would work till 6 am the next morning (18 hours straight). I had my truck full of toys to assemble. After arriving at Exxon for noon, I was boarding the ship at around 1:30, once on the ship, I was talking with the Chief Mate on the ship. The explosion went off. I never got to assemble anything. Spent days out there.
Once the explosion hit, my wife and Father-In-Law went and bought the toys again. Days later I returned the unopened toys to the store.
We had a large metal table in our warehouse, we could assemble, fix, build, repair anything. At times during Christmas we may have 3-6 guys building and assembling toys. Santa’s Real Workshop!
When my first grandchild was born, I got a small unfinished rocker, painted it Purple and Gold!
I was one of the hardest workers out there. If you only knew.

Took me 4.5 hours to put together my 8 year olds vanity. I am getting old as every joint on my lower body hurts from being squatted down and twisted like a pretzel trying to put this thing together.

I purchased a hockey set for the kids when they were about 10 years old so.
Huge hockey net with pvc pipes. I worked on that thing for hours. Couldn’t complete the assembly.
Had a few drinks and I got sleepy and fell asleep on the couch.
I woke up at about 5am and they finished putting the net goal together.
They asked if I could help with the door so they could put it on the driveway to play hockey.
Good times

At the time that was the coldest day on record in Baton Rouge. Not sure if it still stands.

You guys should have had kids when you were younger.

I’m a grandpa, and some of my kids have the big presents delivered to our house so my grandkids don’t see them. We spirit them into the attic but not before guess-who puts them together. I always tell the little buggers, “My grandkids are ruining my life.” But I sure love those little people!
