I started digging into it a bit today and the amount of money is astounding. Mostly tied to Somalians in Minneapolis. 70 people have now been arrested and I’m sure more coming as estimates of 9 billion dollars have gone missing due to fraud.

If this is a political talk thread I apologize, but seemed to fit here.

Billions being stolen.

State auditing 14 “high risk” programs

Feds going after MN Medicaid fraud

Those are just a few examples. They need some serious oversight / leadership changes up there.

My dad told me about it and aren’t there kind of 2 separate frauds going on? One with Somali’s and then one tied to these 2 guys from NJ that was the higher dollar amount linked to drug treatment and therapy programs.

The provider-side of Medicare and Medicaid is rampant with fraud.

Every couple of months there's a story on here about some scandal. Here's a local one from 2023:

Zachary lab owner faces Medicare, Medicaid fraud charges

quote:

The owner of a Zachary medical diagnostic lab ordered unnecessary drug testing of urine samples for almost a decade, defrauding Medicare and Medicaid of more than $148 million, federal prosecutors said.

Among the things he spent his gains on: the renovation of his pool and pool house and the restoration of a truck, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release issued Friday.

Brad Paul Schaeffer, 48, was a co-owner and CEO of MedComp Sciences in Zachary. Between January 2013 and August 2022, the company billed Medicare and Medicaid for the testing of 15 substances in all urine samples it received, regardless of the patient's medical history or what their medical providers had ordered, prosecutors said.

I think the one you’re referring to is this:

The new charges Thursday involved six additional people alleged to have been part of schemes to defraud the autism aid and Housing Stabilization Services programs.

Abdinajib Hassan Yussuf, 27, is accused of defrauding the Early Intensive Development and Behavior Intervention benefit, or EIDBI. Yussuf ran Star Autism Center in St. Cloud, and allegedly stole $6 million, using some of it to buy a semitrailer truck and send more than $200,000 to Kenya.

Prosecutors say Star Autism claimed to provide one-on-one therapy to children with autism but hired unqualified “behavioral technicians” that were “often 18- or 19-year-old relatives, with no formal education beyond high school and no training or certifications related to the treatment of autism.”

In a related case, Asha Hassan, who ran a Minneapolis autism clinic, pleaded guilty Thursday morning to stealing $14 million from the program.

Prosecutors on Thursday also charged three people — Hassan Ahmed Hussein, 28, Ahmed Abdirashid Mohamed, 27, and Kaamil Omar Sallah, 26 — with defrauding the housing stabilization program. Hussein and Mohamed allegedly stole $750,000 through their St. Paul company, Pristine Health. Sallah allegedly stole another $1.3 million through another company.

Apparently Somalis just buy houses with government money and claim they're for home health care.

I was wrong. They’re from Philly: Anthony Waddell Jefferson and Lester Brown.

There’s honestly so many fraud cases from MN it’s hard to keep up, so we could both be talking about different cases. Just Google and it will return a ton

He was likely in on it to some extent but we will never find out "What did he know and how long did he know it?"

He did, he and Ilhan Omar both helped to facilitate it.

You have had your head in the sand if you didnt think this kind of stuff has been going on. Everyone caught needs to go to jail. It is the ONLY way to slow it down. It wont stop it but it will slow down some.

Those people are stealing directly from the taxpayers. They should face the maximum penalties.

They were doing across multiple programs, and protected by those fearing they would be labeled as racist or were labeled as racist for pointing out the Somali problem behind it. The problem isn’t new but just went from in the millions to into the billions. In 2015 more Somalis from Minnesota were found to be contributing foreign fighters to ISIS than from any other state. Some even used federal aid to finance their travels. From 2018 https://www.city-journal.org/article/mogadishu-minnesota

https://www.city-journal.org/article/fraud-minnesota-somali-feeding-our-future
quote:

The Feeding Our Future case has opened a window on a panoply of scams committed on Minnesota Medicaid programs (so-called “waivered” programs) that appear to have been designed to facilitate fraud: Housing Stabilization Services, Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention autism services, and 12 other such programs that Governor Tim Walz has now temporarily suspended for review.
quote:

Employees from the Minnesota Department of Human Services say the state's massive fraud scandal leads straight back to the governor. They claim “Tim Walz is 100% responsible for massive fraud in Minnesota,” insisting they warned him early but “got the opposite response.” Instead of help, they say Walz “systematically retaliated against whistleblowers using monitoring, threats, repression,” backed by certain DFL allies and “an indifferent mainstream media.”

They argue the governor also weakened oversight by disempowering the Office of the Legislative Auditor, while “media and politicians supporting Tim Walz or the DFL-agenda attacked whistleblowers.” According to staff, agency leaders appointed by Walz “willfully disregarded rules and laws to keep fraud reports quiet,” even threatening families. Key programs, they say, lacked fraud safeguards “in an attempt to extract more funding from legislature and the federal government.”

Workers claim they witnessed fraud firsthand but were “shut down, reassigned and told to keep quiet,” with no one held accountable. They describe a system “created and maintained by Tim Walz” that fosters retaliation and shields misconduct. Their view of the governor is blunt: “Fundamentally, Tim Walz is dishonest, lacks ethics and integrity,” and misled the public with “inveterate lying” about a budget surplus created by temporary ARPA funds.

If anyone actually ended up in bracelets and heading to do 10-20 years I would tune back in.

There is fraud all over the place, it’s rampant, we see it, and no one serves a second in prison. It’s sickening.

This is happening in every state. It's why all your neighbors drive late model vehicles but never seem to go to work. Clean it all up.
