He missed the part where Jimmy didn't bankrupt the savings and loan, Potter stole the deposit when the uncle left his newspaper on the desk. And it happened to be on the same day the bank auditor shows up. Potter is the bad guy, there's no two ways around it.

Shapiro praises the film praises Jimmy Stewart, breaks it all down pragmatically. Only at the very end does he bring up the fact that as Potter is portrayed as an evil heartless banker, he’s also looking out for the best interest of the institution.

That’s a bad take by Shapiro. Potter kept the $8,000 Uncles Billy lost, wanted to be a slum lord to the “garlic eaters”, and tried to use Black Friday to shut down the Baileys business. He lost me at Potter.
